What would be the height of a TV 26" tall from the bottom of the lift with the mechanism retracted? (Need to know for minimum inside cabinet height.)

the minimum height of the lift is nearly 27 3/4 with the platform attached. There is a foot on the lift that will not allow a tv to get all the way to the ground. Conservatively, I would say you would need at least 28 inches if your tv is 26 inches high. Of course, a lot depends on the location of the holes on the back of your tv and how they align to the bracket provided with the lift. We have a 50 inch tv which is under 26inches high and we the lowest we can go is 27 and 3/4.

Yes but the mechanism plus TV stand out from wall about 8 inches. I did what you are proposing by building in around the sides and adding a top. Worked great. The lift is sturdier if it is attached to a base, ie. the floor in my case plus the wall. Can I mount this to a wall under a window? Will it work to add a 2x4 instead of direct mount so it will clear the sill?

Shouldn’t be a problem. I had to offset it about 5” from my RV wall. You’ll still need to bolt it to the floor stability. Good quality unit for the money. Minimum lowered height will be about 4” but is adjustable. Max height of about 60”. Hope this helps.

Could I mount this horizontally with a load?

This lift cannot be mounted horizontally.
