Great camera for causual use
I bought this camera to replace my previous Sony camera of the same lineage, after the previous camera was dropped on its open lens and would no longer close its lens. I did not buy this camera to use in place of a higher end DSLR, and I do not expect to use it in this manner. I know the camera has limitations, but I also use it for what I believe it is for: A pocket point and shoot camera with higher quality pictures for travel and as a daily, casual camera. For this purpose, I believe this camera takes great pictures. I am still working out some of the features of the camera to adjust pictures taken at night, but I am really happy with the picture quality so far. It has a deeper zoom than my previous camera, so I can actually take closer pictures than my previous Sony camera. I also have no issues regarding the Sony software as I typically take my SD card out and stick it in a card reader. I did test out the wired cable, and while it did install drivers, I actually just accessed my pictures as if it were a USB drive. The camera itself is a little on the gentle side, but I generally keep my camera in a padded leather travel case when not in use, as I have owned higher end cameras and I am well aware of fragility of all cameras and the hardware inside. Updates from the previous model: Most of the features have been combined into the selection dial, which is also a button. The screen is a little bigger. It has a wider zoom. Some of the digital enhancement features offer better stabilization. Regarding some of the issues with night pictures - it seems the camera takes better pictures and uses its own digital aperture sensor to balance the surrounding light in the area to take a better picture. While I haven't had a chance to really play with night pictures, I was able to take some decent pictures of buildings with neon signs, and I only had issues with two of my night time pictures. I have uploaded some pictures with this review - the day light pictures were taken through a window. The evening pictures were taken after 10:00 pm, and the lighting involved is neon, sulfur street lights, and other business lighting. Please note I took the pictures to exclusively test the camera out of the box. Alright, having had some more time to fiddle with the camera, they have completely updated the digital apertures into a user friendly picture menu located under the "SCN" menu and a few more night shot options are otherwise in the rest of the aperture menu. I was actually able to take some pretty nice night and low light shots, though this camera is intended to be a simple point-n-shoot. I did not need an additional manual, and the aperture menu was easy to navigate, just push the button in the dial and move the dial up or down to find what one needs to use.

Very compact, Easy to use, Good photos
Extremely compact with MANY features. Has 4 different aspect ratios, 3-to-5 different image sizes (depending on aspect ratio), 2 fineness settings. zoom and wide angle. Has MANY pages of menu settings (using Menu button) ... plus easy to change color temp, brightness, vividness and special effects, plus flash and timer settings (with wheel). Shoots 170-180 degree panoramas. The slower you pan the higher the quality, but 170-180 degrees remains fixed. Video is MPEG-4 AVC/H.264, so I convert on my older computer to MPEG-2 before viewing. Comes with a 630 ma/H battery, which is chargeable in the camera using the compact plug-in charger (supplied) through the 20" long USB-2 picture download cable (same cable is used for charging and picture download). I ordered two higher capacity batteries and an external charger for about $20. You can do wireless picture downloads, though I haven't tried this. Needs a memory card to work (there's no internal memory, and it doesn't come with any). You can use standard or micro SD cards (SD XC Class 4) with the supplied adapter (I've already tried both). It will also use Memory Stick PRO Duo or Memory Stick Micro. Also has an HDMI plug. So far I really like this camera a lot. Takes nice photos and compresses them very efficiently. Would recommend, though I've only used for a few days now.

A bit more complicated than I expected, but still seems like a good camera (will update review as needed later.)
I got myself this camera and so far, so good (I will revise later if needed) I've had it only a few days, but charging was fast and easy, getting the battery and memory card in was easy, and while I haven't had any pictures printed yet, it seems to take clear, crisp photos from what I can tell on my computer screen. The downsides are that the flash seems to cause over-exposing often, and I don't think the menu's are necessarily intuitive... and some of them seem downright silly. I mean, there is a portrait setting... and a sport setting... and a pet setting... wait. WHAT? Yes... a pet setting... for taking pictures of your pet. It comes with minimal literature to tell you how to use the camera, and I don't know what a lot of the symbols mean that pop up on the screen.... (But I do know that cat head means I'm in pet mode...) and I don't know what some of the settings mean, either. I mean, there is Auto... then there is Auto Plus... and Intelligent Auto. There are brief descriptions on the screen for each that really do little to help a user differentiate between them, and using each of the settings for the same subject seem to produce the same results, so I'm still trying to figure that one out. When transferring photos to my computer via USB, I noticed the little door on the camera where the mini usb plugs in seems a bit flimsy, so it's worth being careful there... As I use it more and figure it out more, I will adjust this review-- but after 2 days of heavy, heavy use, this is what I've come up with so far. It seems to be a decent camera, it feels sort of light and chintzy, but it's small and will be easy to carry around, which is what I needed it for. Overall I'm happy, I just didn't expect such a learning curve with this thing. (and expected more assistance from Sony in figuring it out!)

great photos, but poor durability
The Good: 1) Takes great photos in low light as long as the object is not moving 2) Great optical zoom 3) Small size The Bad: 1) NOT DURABLE. I keep the camera in my front pocket, as I have done with three Canon Elph cameras over the last 8 years that have been of similar size. The only damage that has occurred to the Canon cameras has been normal wear on the finish and scratches on the screen, which are to be expected. On the other hand, this camera is falling apart after 3 months. The plastic on the back of the camera somehow cracked in several places (the camera was never dropped) and so it is now being held together with clear tape. Apparently the body also is made of a soft aluminum – one part of the body is dented at a seam. The lack of basic durability is the major weakness with this camera. I do not expect it will last much longer. 2) No manual, unless clicking through a zillion links on a website counts as a manual. 3) Maybe some other issues – I have a hard time getting it to focus on something moving in lower light. Perhaps if there was a user manual I could understand what adjustments to make.

Very poor camera for 2016
I have owned dozens of digital cameras over the years from small compacts models to large DSLRs. I had the predecessor camera to this one from Sony (DSC-W180). It would fit in my pocket when mountain climbing. It served me well on my hiking adventures taking videos and stills. It took great pictures and videos and was very rugged. When it hit a rock too many times and the case broke I had to replace it, so I ordered this camera figuring a newer Sony would perform better. Was I wrong. This camera is terrible. First, the processing time after you take a picture is very long. More than a two seconds. There is no way a camera in 2016 should take so long to process a still picture. It is very annoying. Second. the battery life is very short. Probably half the battery life of my older camera. Third, the flash is terrible. Again, it performs worse than the first generation of digital cameras. It producing strong "Flash in the face" look where peoples faces are over exposed. This is cause by poor feedback circuits in the flash control system. I played with all the flash settings and it never worked well. Finally, in low light the camera is just OK (without a flash). I would have hoped for better with the backside illuminated sensor. I think the designers of this camera tried to jam more pixels into the camera for this model and took a hit on all the other parameters of the camera. I am planning to throw away the camera and get a different one.

Small, yet highly effective. As close as you can get to Point-and-Shoot
This is a great tiny (yes, tiny) camera. My goal was to find a camera that is small and can take great pictures, quickly, with little or no fuss, in all situations. I was tired of waiting for focus or getting blurry pictures with my smart phone and my other camera (Olympus TG-2). I tested it on the streets of NYC at dusk and night time. I used the setting for outdoor night time with no flash. I tested it as if it was a "point-and-shoot" camera. It took at most 1 second to focus. Once I clicked the button, it takes 3 pictures in rapid succession and averages them out to create a perfect picture! Also, indoor pictures with no flash in St. Patrick's Cathedral came out great with that setting. The flash can actually be too bright, depending on the situation. I still have to do more experimenting and testing, but I believe this camera will pass all my tests with flying colors, since I already tested it in some of the worst lighting conditions.

If I'd known of this camera "shadowing" problem I would NOT have purchased this camera! A costly regret!
Sony DSCWX220/B 18.2 MP Digital Camera with 2.7-Inch LCD (Black) Definitely not worth the price I paid for it which was $178 in July '16 (& now I see it's actually more! what?!), when Sony itself says the price of this camera is actually $84!! This camera is not very sturdily made, it's too small/compact even for my smaller fingers, & the placement of the buttons needs improvement -mainly the movie REC button, which is too often accidentally pushed on while simply trying to hold the camera. I purchased it because my old Sony Cybershot's flash stopped working & this camera had comparable functions/capabilities & seemed like a decent camera (though my old Sony camera was a little bigger, made of metal, more durable, had a better set up to it). Yes, this Sony has a variety of functions & it takes good photographs EXCEPT for the ongoing issue it has when I take photographs, mainly when using the flash (both flash functions), there's a shadow/ing in the lower left corner!(which can vary in the size & density with each use) Around 3 months after I purchased this camera I began noticing a slight shadow on the screen & on my photographs, more often when I utilized the flash. (And yes, I tried different settings, made sure firmware up to date, reset it, etc!) I use it more often without the flash than with, but this shadowing problem gradually began to worsen in size & density (sometimes it wasn't as bad & sometimes it was quite bad & sometimes the shadowing also appeared in the upper left corner). I've never used the camera except in my home & handled it with care, so I thought perhaps something had been loosened when it had been shipped to me since Amazon did not pack it securely. Several months in I finally called Sony because this shadowing problem had become very bad & it had another issue that occurred a couple of times -& camera was still under warranty. Sony instructed me to ship it to a camera repair shop (Precision Camera in CT, which they've a contract with to service all their cameras), which has a terrible record, often Not fixing peoples cameras, but Sony gave me no other choice. This camera shop had it for one day supposedly repaired & cleaned it & returned it to me -& it was NOT fixed / still had the shadow problem. Sony again instructed me to send it back to the camera shop & this happened 2 more times AND all 3 times camera repair shop did NOT repair this problem! And only then did Sony instruct me to return camera to them & they'd send me a replacement camera, the same exact mode, which they did - AND IT HAS THE SAME PROBLEM AND ON BOTH LEFT CORNERS of screen & photographs!!! (Plus this camera's access panel to the SD Card & Battery is loose too!) This continual issue/problem adversely affects using this camera / taking photographs esp. of specific things I need to photograph & I need clear quality photographs of! -So I guess I must live with many of my photographs having a shadowed corner AND hope it doesn't worsen as it did with the prior camera!! I can deal with the other things, but this issue/problem is very unacceptable! I don't have the money to buy another camera (nor could I actually afford to buy this one, as I can't even afford even to met my basic necessities, but I require a good digital camera). Two of the same exact camera with the same exact problem - there's something defective with this model of Sony camera & I wish I'd known about this before because I would NOT have purchased this over-priced & problematic camera. :( P.S. I included a couple of photographs of my two furkids to show this model of camera's "shadow/ing" defect/problem. It's not so bad now/yet BUT that's how it started out with my last Sony DSCWX220 camera that this camera is the replacement for! Also, as I said, this shadowing can varies with each use of the camera -a few photos may not be as bad then one or two are much worse/shadows more dense more sizable then goes back to not as bad...BUT this is a problem that should not be occurring at all, whatever the size & density!!!

Great camera. Can't beat the price
I love this camera. I bought it and have used it every day since I received it 2-3 weeks ago. I went to order another one tonight for my granddaughters graduation and Amazon had a post that it was not available due to the product not being as listed. I can't understand what they mean by that. I am delighted with this little gem. It fits in my pocket and the photos are outstanding. We were on a road trip and my granddaughter was taking pictures when we were going 70 miles an hour and the pictures are amazing!! There are so many great options and we found it very easy to maneuver through the menu to create many different lighting situations and all the photos came out perfect. For the price this little gem can't be beat. I have a very expensive Sony camera and honestly I think this camera takes better pictures than my expensive one. I ended up buying it again from another seller and my granddaughter will be delighted come Saturday night after she graduates.

Amazing pictures & video
Amazing pictures & video. Didn't even have to change any setting...just charged it up right out of the box and started taking pictures. Auto adjusts for every situation. Nature photos look like a National Geographic photo. Love it!!

Good picture quality
Good picture quality, small size. The battery can be a bit weak at times, but if you don't use the flash, you'll be fine.
