Visisble Learning and the Science of How we learn should be required reading for all educators
John Hattie has created a very special, unique and authoritative book that should be the foundation for all educators. It is filled with many "ah ha" passages. For the novice there is a solid foundation on which to build. For the most educated and experienced educators there is confirmation of "that's absolutely right". For this 79 year old life long learner with a MEd, classroom teacher, Lt/Col USAF, great grandfather, pastor and missionary, it was "I didn't know that! I have it on my Kindle and my iPhone5 which is bluetooth to my hearing aids. Thanks John Hattie, I know it took many hours and many people to create this master piece.

All educators should read this book
Hattie and Yates have written an easily understood book that highlights the major research of the recent past and links it to both teaching and learning. In a time of greater demand for student achievement with fewer and fewer resources provided, this book not only delineates practices that should be faithfully implemented but also demonstrates the little return that some favored historical strategies engender. Professional teachers need to utilize research to create the most efficient learning situations possible for their students. This book can be devoured as a whole or savored one chapter at a time. There is no question that the reader will return to certain passages or chapters again and again.

I learned about learning
I bought this for a class and loved it. It's written by Australians, which is fun to keep in mind, but the research and theory is very applicable to the US education system. It's a fascinating read, especially for those interested in education or cognitive science.

Worth reading twice
If you’re struggling to interpret Hattie’s effect sizes and put them into practice, this is a good book to start. You get research that shows what common practices get wrong and suggested replacements for those practices that will work.

This text is a must read for teachers at all levels of instruction
While this text is aimed at K-12 teachers, its inights about how learning occurs and how teachers can use this information to help create conditions that lead to changing the long term memories of students (which is the purpose of education) can be used by instructors at all levels. The number of "Ah ha!" moments delivered in just the first chapter put it far ahead of most books on this subject--the overall impact of the whole text is stunning. If you teach, you must read it. Then pester the people who work with you to read it too.
