121 Paint Mixer,White

I had some paints and inks that had sat there for years. I was unable to use them, they had thickened at the bottom so much, and all the shaking in the world couldn't mix them. I got this, added two batteries, and in no time, my inks were mixed perfectly. They even ran through a fussy crowquill pen. This is very easy to use and an excellent value. It is small and easy to find a space for in the studio. It works with paints and inks in less than a minute. It is very easy to clean. I might have been inclined to discard these inks, but now they flow smoothly again. This mixer paid for itself in three minutes.

In my humble opinion this is the best thing since sliced bread, round wheels & jelly donuts. I am an avid HO gauge scale modeler and this tool has allowed me to rescue bottles of acrylic paint I thought were "goners". I have a lot of Polly-scale acrylics and Floquil enamels that became "lumpy" over the years, as they are no longer being made I held on to them. I have tried aggressive stirring, shaking and adding BB's to the bottles over the years to no avail. In the first few days of using this wonderful tool I have restored at least a dozen bottles of paint. The tool is easy to use and clean and appears to be a scaled down version of my Cuisinart Smart Stick hand blender. It fits easily into the 1 oz bottles of paint and just like a blender draws the paint from the top to the bottom in an efficient vortex and blends it very well. It also breaks down any "lumps" in the paint and mixes them with the rest of the paint in the bottle. If the paint has settled out completely into a lump on the bottom I recommend using a stir stick to break it up before using this little blender. I have also already mixed a few custom colors and it is really great at creating a even and consistent color throughout the airbrush bottle. This afternoon I tried it out on a 2 oz bottle of Scalecoat enamel (also an extinct brand) and it worked very well with the thicker paint and after adding the thinner (again with this great tool) I was able to airbrush it efficiently. I them inserted it in a small jar of paint thinner. touched the switch for 5-7 seconds and it came out nice & clean. One minor downside... it chews up AA batteries, this can be addressed by using rechargeable batteries which was my solution. If you do any airbrush painting of anything this is an indispensable tool and I highly recommend it... best $20 I've spent in years!

This tool would get a 5 star rating if I didn't have to modify it to fit into my Vallejo eye dropper paint bottles. I had to use a rotary tool grind the diameter down to fit the bottles. If it had different attachments available for smaller opening bottles that would be ideal. It is very affordable and uses 2 AA batteries, not included. I used it hardcore for a weekend with no hiccups. Works great for every other paint brand I use including Games Workshop and Tamiya. The great part about this tool is that it gets your paints as close to how they were when they were bottled at the plant. What's the first thing you do when you pick up a bottle of paint? You shake it, right? Shaking it does move the pigment around but doesn't blend them with the other chemicals in the paint. You could add BB's to the paint and get better mixing but the pigment would quickly settle to the bottom of the bottle. This mixer blends your pigments similar to the way they were blended at bottling so your pigment and viscosity remain consistent through each use. No more dishing out a thin mess of inhibitor leaving all your pigment in bottle. My only advice is to MAKE SURE THE MIXER IS IN THE BOTTLE BEFORE GETTING YOUR FINGER NEAR THE ON SWITCH! The power switch is a little loose so you can get a false start before the mixing wand is completely in the bottle. I hate unnecessary clean-ups.

This is incredible, it mixes up 20 year old testors paints like a champ! And best of all, no more stupid shaking jars which not only fails to mix heavy pigment clumps stuck to the bottom of the jar, but also gets paint stuck on the bottom of the lid, gluing the lid shut for next time, and causing dried paint to fall back into the jar potentially clogging your airbrush next time. This thing is just great and works perfectly. It really packs a punch! It's so satisfying, I get a smile every time I use it because I know its just obliterating all the clumps of paint pigment at the bottom of the jar! I was also impressed how well balanced it spins, considering the length of the snout and the way the shaft just press fits directly to the motor shaft. It actually balances out with motor RPM. (Although I'm sure if it got bent, it would be violently unbalanced.) Best of all, there's no splashing (as long as you follow the directions and be careful to never spin it when not submerged! I managed to splatter paint all over my workspace once when I accidentally hit the trigger setting it down after I had just mixed a jar of paint and needed 2 hands to screw the lid on... When that happens it splatters paint in 360 degrees and further than you want!) The only downsides are: 1. Its kind of long and cumbersome to store when not in use, but the shaft used a metal on metal friction press fit, so I don't feel comfortable removing and reinstalling the shaft each time I use it as I fear it would become looser over time. It doesn't fit back in the box when assembled, and setting it down is somewhat liable to depress the trigger. Unless you want to pop the batteries in and out after every use. All in all not a big deal. 2. Once it has wet paint on it, as soon as you remove it from the jar, it's a hair trigger handheld paint splatter disaster waiting to happen.. 3. The head of the tool (the metal 6 point star that actually does the mixing) is kind of a weird shaped metal piece stamped/clamped onto the end of the shaft, with a few little crevices for paint to hide in after mixing. This makes it hard to ever be certain you've gotten 100% of the paint cleaned off so you don't contaminate the next jar. What I do after use is to VERY CAREFULLY (cautious to not trigger it!) move it to point down inside a wastebasket with a disposable plastic bag lining, and spin it, which will launch virtually all the paint onto the walls of your wastebasket. Then stick it into a jar of thinner and spin it to clean the rest, finished with a final wipe on white paper towel to visually verify no paint remains. Excellent value. Highly recommended to any modeler, you will shake your head at the idea of shaking jars once you use this.

Theres no way around this one, if you own jarred paints like Tamiya this is an absolute must have. You can't shake jarred paints because the seal will get all loaded up with paint ruining the seal and it will eventually get in the threads making a mess and your paint will dry out and get ruined. You have to stir it, but manually stirring is a joke and won't do the job especially for metalics that separate too easily, so to ensure an easy thorough mix, you absolutely need a tool like this. It's an affordable price. They build it as cheaply as it should be without compromising on function. The trigger is nice because it is a hair trigger you can just push enough to turn on and release for off, or you can push all the way and it will click in and stay on so you can take your hand off to. I felt the trigger was a little too hair-trigger sensitive so I lightly bent the metal trigger contact back and it is a little less sensitive right now and is perfect. I mixes the paint up really well. I would never use this for Vallejo or dropper style paint containers, it doesn't fit and you're better off using m5 stainless steel nuts as agitators for those and shaking them. To clean the mixer have a jar/glass of water and Isopropyl Alcohol (or whatever solvent dissolves the paint you're using) ready, and when youre done mixing immediatley put the mixer in the water and turn it on again to get the bulk off then put it in the Alcohol/solvent and turn it on again to get all the rest off, then wipe it with a lint free paper towel (I use scotts blue shop paper towels they are lint free). Make sure there is no lint or dust on the mixer wand or it will end up in your paint. I love certain products that come in jars but hate jars so I transferred all my jarred paints into dropper bottles. Even doing that this tool was still indispensable to ensure a good mix before the transfer. Unless I had no jarred paints I couldn't imagine not having this in my toolbox.

Nice little tool. It’s much better to stir paint than to shake it. I will use this to keep the valuable little bottles of discontinued model train paint I have in good condition. Using this, I can keep paint off the inside of the lid, and it retains a better seal. I initially thought about getting stainless ball bearings to put down in the bottles, but this a much better solution. It is perfectly sized for the tiny little one ounce bottles. There is another well known brand of paint mixer on the market, but Badger is respected name and I decided to spend a couple of dollars more and go with it. The on off switch is nice, it has an intermittent position and a full on position. The shaft is plenty long, and well balanced.

I've been using the Badger Air-Brush Co. 121 Paint Mixer in white for my model painting projects, and it's an absolute game-changer. This little tool mixes paints smoothly and evenly without any clumps, saving me tons of time and frustration. The design is sturdy, easy to clean, and fits perfectly with my Badger airbrush setup. If you're into airbrushing, this is a must-have. Highly recommend! I've since moved to a paint shaker which is probably better but still use this mixer from time to time.

Pros: It stirs some paints if they are as thin as water. The metal shaft is straight. Cons: This will not stir thicker paint that requires any power or torque, such as craft paints that have settled, so don't think you can revive old paints that have been sitting for a long time. It eats batteries very quickly, as in five bottles of craft paint stirred and brand new batteries have lost most of their charge. Extremely over priced at around $20 for a device with little or no torque/power. In thickly settled paint it simply stops working as it is too weak to move the sediment. It wastes a great deal of paint due to the shaft being covered in it when you remove it from the bottle. Really, and truly messy! It must be used in a sink or a plastic container, (I used a tall quart container to place the bottles in and had that in the sink as well), with the slightest upward movement causing splattering everywhere. The shaft comes loose after a few minutes use, it is split at the base where it pushes over the shaft of the motor and that split slowly opens up during use so that the motor spins but the shaft remains still. The metal at the base of the shaft is soft, too soft, and I had to remove the shaft and crimp the base repeatedly during use. Conclusion: I am returning this, as it is a very poorly designed device with more negatives than positives, and is only useful for thin paints. The battery usage is ridiculous making it very expensive to run. This thing is very over priced.

Works great, bought to replace my old one.
