To Take a Wife
Product ID: 7101893
A powerful drama about a woman's struggle for independence in the face of family tradition. Vivian (Ronit Elkabetz), trapped with 3 kids and a grinding routine, rages to express herself and live in the modern world. Her husband, a respected family man from Morocco, and her brothers keep her in line, but her lover tempts her to break loose to be loved and free. To Take a Wife is a story of tradition, love and fear... of the future. Powerful, brilliant and breathtaking performance by Ronit Elkabetz. --Variety The audience gave Elkabetz's larger than life performance a standing ovation. --Le Monde Review: Tradition vs New Way of Life - It is hard to watch how this woman struggles with the family she is married to: her husband, her mother in law. They are different as " Water and Oil", as it was said in the "Gett", the last of the Trialogy. Interesting for anyone who wants to know more about religious marriage law in Israel in the 70th. Excellent performance by Ranit Elkabetz, who plays her mother's divorce struggles against their father.Deeply touching. She looks like a wounded animal, but not defeated. Review: Watch before GETT but just see it! - Can't believe I'm just now learning about this movie. Wish I saw before GETT, but I'm so glad I bought it. Truely a snapshot of a part of Israeli society, but also deals with universal issues of marriage and family.

Excellent. There are 3 movies in the series. After researching the trilogy, I decided to watch #1 and then skip to #3 which was the movie I was originally wanting to see. #1 gives you the breathless background that leads up to Gett.
