Channellock CHL420 9.5-inch Straight Jaw Tongue and Groove Plier

I've been using these Channellock pliers for 15-20 years now since the company I worked for had a contract with Channellock. At first, I didn't like the jaws on this version as I was used to the non- flat jaw type which fit around a hex nut. I found though that these, when adjusted also grip hex huts perfectly on two sides and the teeth are sharp and strong enough to bite in and not slip ever. They also work on steel pipe, although 'footprints' or stillsons are more suited for pipe tightening. They have taken abuse over the years. I only bought a new set recently as the old set's teeth are slightly less sharp after 15 plus years of exposure to water, flux, chemicals, and daily use. The blue handles started to slip off after 12 years and I taped them on. The 12 inch version is large and powerful enough for most jobs.

Having grown up in the USA, we called this "the Hillbilly Open-end Wrench". Strong, grips tight and easily adjustable when using for managing when a conventional wrench won't fit or can't do the job. Necessary item for any DIY tool box and Channel Lock is the flagship brand. Don't bother with cheap knock-offs.

I bought this to replace a set of crescent pump pliers that broke after 38 years of service I use them every day and I had a new pair of crescent ones but they were not as good as the old ones so thought I get these . They are lovely I am very happy got a good feel to them definitely a quality product

I’ve seen a lot of people from the US raving about how great these grips are. They’re manufactured to a high standard and work well but I still prefer my knipex grips.

I had to call for help because I have lost strength in my hands. My help thought I should order these to have on hand to avoid the embarrassment of not being able to unhook the outside hose again. They work great for other things too. They are well built, the jaw alignment is perfect, they seem to be high quality, and rust shouldn't be a problem as they are housed in my garage with the other tools. Other than these being clean, they look just like the pair my Dad had when I was a kid many, many years ago.

Channellocks are the top end of pliers. Yes, you can get "aftermarket" for less but life is short and I don't need to be replacing tools regularly, or not be able to count on what I pick up. These very small pliers sit both inside and in my tool kit in the garage. Solve many "holding" jobs well. I use these enough to wear a set out every 10-15 years, which is fine ... compared to the rough as guts units which rust or slop around. Not cheap, but cost per year is more than reasonable, with trustworthy performance.
