You get what you pay for
Don't let the price turn you away from this one, or the negative reviews. This light is amazing and very easy to setup and get going, especially if you already have LIFX in your home. The initial setup up is a little slow and wonky, but every smart device I've ever owned that connects to 2.4 has acted the same way so no complaints there. The brightness is outstanding. Better than any online picture or video and can show. And don't be fooled by thinking you can only do a straight line or some form of an L shape. The corner piece is actually a T, and since my last name starts with a T, that's what I have on my wall. I have moved the bars in various positions before I figured that out, and the sticky tapes have never failed. The only problem I had with alinement was with the actual wall and not the lights. It's fool proof and the effects are really cool. The only thing I wish is that the animations and movements would run without the app having to be open in the background on my phone. I bought it to pair with my Razer Chroma setup and it does, but I seem to have no control there over the zones and all three of my LIFX light show up in Razer Synapse as one unit. Guess this is a software issue with the Chroma Connector app? Not sure as I'm still looking into it.

Quality lights!
LIFX always makes top quality lights but god their app and connecting procedures are abysmal. Amazing light other than the app.

Really disappointed with these
Absolutely beautiful and stunning lights.. when they work. The magnets that connect these things are absolute garbage, the adhesive is horrible, and every so often half of the damn things just turn off or start flashing random colors and I have to tap it to get them back to the original color or to get them to light up again. Really disappointed for what I paid for this and will probably end up returning these and getting either a new set to see if this one is faulty or just spending the extra money for something better. Update: got a replacement and the adhesive was way better and so was the connectivity with the magnets but after about a week they started flashing different colors, went to unplug them a couple times as stated in the repairing instructions and they stopped lighting up all together. Waste of time and money staying with a one star on this one

Not nearly as bad as all the negative reviews have them out to be.
Despite all the negative reviews, I figured I would purchase a set and give it a shot because I love the way they look. The installation was simple enough that I was able to install the units without reading the instructions. My advice though would be to install the units as if they did not have those 3M Velcro adhesive strips and treat them like simple adhesive strips. I tried to install a beam by applying the velcro strip to the wall then stick the beam to the strip and it was incredibly difficult and required a lot of force to get the beam to attach to the velcro. As for the multiple comments about the lack of brightness control, maybe they had an older version of the app, but there is brightness control for the app as well as brightness control through google home. Connection to the app and wifi was similar to other smart home setups, nothing overtly difficult or easier than other apps. I purchased the units around black Friday so they were $99, not the retail $150. Even at $99 I would not say they're a good deal. I think $99 should be retail and anything less than that would be the sale. Overall, I love them and who knows, maybe all the negative reviews are right and they will suck over time. But as of under a week of owning them, they're great, fun, and nice to look at. UPDATE: I have now owned these for 4 months, still as sturdy and bright as the day I installed them. No complaints, still in love with them. UPDATE 2: They're still up and running no problem, about 5 years later. My stance on the price still stands, especially since a lot of other competition is making similar lights. Cheers.

A two year review
I have had these lights on my wall for the last two years. I have gotten a tremendous amount of use out of them. Here is my honest review: 1. The colors of the lights themselves are wonderful. They are vibrant and can be dimmed or brightened at your convenience using the app. 2. The adhesive that comes with these is terrible so I had to go out and buy my own wall adhesives to keep these from falling of the wall. Don't remember what I used but they haven't fallen in two years. 3. The LIFX app is HORRIBLE. Seriously. What's the point of having these great lights if you can hardly control them? The app constantly stops working, loses my home wi-fi connection, or simple puts on a different color scene than I select. If there is one reason to stay away from these lights, it's the app. Do yourself a favor and do some research into other kinds of lights such as Nanoleaf or Govee and check to see that their apps work better than LIFX. Overall a 3/5. Would be perfect if not for the garbage LIFX app.

Good but consistent concurring problems so be cautious
This item has caused me multiple headaches ever since buying it over 6 months ago and I held off on reviewing this because maybe I was just dumb and wasn’t making it work properly but no, it’s always some sorta technical issue that revolves around problem solving for a few minutes to hours. There’s also days where it just randomly doesn’t work, the light turns on but it doesn’t connect and change colors a lot. I moved this beam around my bedroom a few times and changing the settings as stated to troubleshoot random problems I was having in order to try pinpointing the problem but then it just randomly stops working. It’s not damaged either. I’m very careful while moving it and it’s in a dry safe environment. Maybe it’s my WiFi box because I have too many stuff connected, nope turns out that it’s still there and authorized on the list and within a couple of feet away from the box. I have to disconnect and reconnect this one repeatedly and at times it just lights up only half the beam with white light and doesn’t connect and stays like that for a day or 2 until it just randomly decides to work again I guess. Weird and I’m still trying to figure that out but it’s not my wall sockets either because I tried multiple and this is a relatively new house just 3 years old. Also the animation option especially is usually very glitchy and another big issue. It doesn’t fully work and it doesn’t always work on every light and doesn’t change the color properly and instead just goes back to standard 1 solid color rotations. I’m sure others have the same problem still. Not a week goes by that I have some issue with this one beam specifically. I bought 2 beams and 4 strips from LIFX. I didn’t drop the item or the packaging either so it’s either very sensitive to disconnecting or there’s some sort of technical issue with the product itself from the very beginning but I’m just very exhausted from giving this product the benefit of the doubt when it causes me a lot of unnecessary headaches each week with some issue. I absolutely love the lights though so this is why it makes it difficult to rate it a lower amount because I generally love it but it’s undeniable the multiple problems this item keeps causing but it also has to be brought to the attention of curious potential customers. Also their isn’t a lot of options available to choose from and they need to change that or bring back that custom option from the old app that’s absent in the new update because these options can get old fast. Maybe that was causing issues too. Also please come out with a version that doesn’t have a wire possibly. Maybe like a removable rechargeable battery pack in one of the beams that transfers that power through the magnets when you line them up but you can still plug it in to recharge from time to time. It would make room placement a little easier and more cleaner looking. Who knows maybe it’s a logistics issue and price per battery per unit it’s not that hard of an idea to think of but quality of life will improve for this I believe. I want it to be known to potential customers that I still do not regret buying this item since it has made my room look so much better and vibrant, but you will definitely have problems with this product and it’s up to you if you want to continue to go through with information from my experience. Room for improvement is definitely there.

Good, but not great.
I have to start of by saying I've owned the nanoleafs for a few years so I judged the lifx beam using them as a control. First thing - all the photos you see of this beam light aren't truly accurate to what it looks like in person. The camera blows the intensity way out of proportion and it appears to be a solid stick of continual light; very vibrant and attractive. In my photos where I've filtered down that intensity, you can see the light has poor diffusion leading to hot and cold spots which frankly makes it look cheap when staring directly at it. In comparison my nanoleafs are silky smooth with no color variation per section. (One man's opinion) Second thing - color matching is near impossible with the clunky app. I attempted to color match some of the grey blues and turquoise of my nanoleafs, but the light beam was just over the top saturated and I couldn't get anything close to. I think some of this has to do with the glossy diffuser finish that affects the way the light is precieved, but that's just a guess. The nanoleafs are a matte white which provides a purer rendition of color. The lifx beam does have a more muted "Pastel Mode" which doesn't look all that bad, but the diffusion hot and cold spots kill the impact for me. I do have to say it's easily one of the brightest accent lights I've ever seen, but I could hardly use the thing above 35% brightness in my dim apartment. Part of that intensity is it feels more like I'm in a club and less like this is a colorful accent artpeice that resides in my home. At the sacrifice of your eyes, the rainbow inferno that is this light demands presence - too much so I think. Instead this would be awesome for indirect light cascading under a cabinet or behind a TV. Overall it's not a terrible product for the price. It looks unbelievable in photos, but the effect just doesn't seem to carry the same gravity in person. I say go nanoleafs if you're looking for a more refined product for direct viewing and software. For sheer intensity, this is your ride. Just depends on the look you're going for.

Fantastic!
My teenage son loved these! If you are familiar with LIFX bulbs these take it to a whole new level! Themes, FX, and colors work just as old bulbs. You can set each light within each beam by using Zones. Can get super customized.
