By the creators of Death Note! The mystery behind manga-making revealed! Average student Moritaka Mashiro enjoys drawing for fun. When his classmate and aspiring writer Akito Takagi discovers his talent, he begs Moritaka to team up with him as a manga-creating duo. But what exactly does it take to make it in the manga-publishing world? After Moritaka and Akito collaborate on a manga together, they venture to publishing house Shueisha in hopes of capturing an editor's interest. As much potential as these two rookies have, will their story impress the pros and actually get printed? Review: A rival appears! - Bakuman Volume 2 includes chapters 8 to 16. It is rated T for teen due to "suggestive themes". Bakuman is about 2 boys, Moritaka Mashiro and Akito Takagi, who dream of becoming professional manga creators. Mashiro is in charge of the art and Takagi writes the story. Together the duo call themselves Muto Ashirogi. Mashiro promised his girlfriend, Miho Azuki, that when both his dream and her dream of becoming a voice actress come true, they will get married. In this volume we meet Nizuma Eiji, the rival to Mashiro and Takagi. He is the same age as the boys but he is closer to getting his manga serialized. Mashiro and Takagi also visit the Shueisha headquarters and get themselves an editor! (look out for the other Shonen Jump titles on posters, magazines and such) Just like the first volume, we get to see Ohba's and Obata's rough storyboards for Bakuman at the end of each chapter. This is helpful to anyone to hopes to become a mangaka. The only bad thing about Bakuman are the female characters. I just can't seem to like them at all. But Bakuman definitely has potential to become a favourite among manga readers. Review: peace and quiet! - My 'tween' loves this series, and they are SO much cheaper on desertcart, that in a well known other book store who charge £15 per book! It gives DD something to engross on, and being funky (read back to front and right to left) they also have an extra appeal to kids. Well drawn and gentle story lines with genuine issues involved, based around kids in school who love to draw manga and the issues they have in teen minds, and some well deserved peace and quiet for us grown ups as they devour page by page!

Really enjoyed this volume
came on time, Story continues with the review of the 2 main characters first final draft, an editor see's potential in them and tries to guide them on the right path towards the skills they have. Really enjoyed this volume, this manga has alot of reading but the story is rather captivating, its a good take on slice of life.

Interesting
Good follow-up to Death Note, though on a completely different tone. They make the behing the scenes process of creating and submitting a manga quite interesting. Has a bit of highschool romance that is slightly less interesting, but the manga is overall quite enjoyable.

Suspensful Comedy at its finest
Bakuman vol 2, continues the story of Moritaka Mashiro (Saiko) and Akito Takagi (Shujin) as they are on their journey to create a number one manga. The volume introduces a sort of rival, Eiji, who is also their same age and is already on his way to getting a serialized manga. This is one great ride filled with comedy, suspense, and massive page turning action that should not be missed. I found that the characters' facial expressions were great for the main characters and their respective "girlfriends." The writing also does an excellent job at explaining concepts. Particularly, one of the most noticeable things is that of the Shonen Jump imprinted manga, this seems to be the one with the most writing (probably because of the lack of high action fighting that is seen in the other major Shonen Jump manga series here). The writing is great though and the characters develop well enough. The art is great and in scenes with actual Shonen Jump manga, it is great to see references to other series (for example in the Shonen Jump office, Naruto poster, One Piece wanted posters, etc, litter the place). All in all this is a great series to continue to read and Volume 3 can not come fast enough. Note: The bonus included are sketches on each of the pages adjacent to a chapter title page.

Interesting
Now things are getting interesting, the story continues at the cliffhanger left in the last volume and things are getting more intense. We are introduced to a very intersting character in Eiji Niizuma and he is also sort of a rival. Can't wait to see where the story goes on.
