I did the sequence for 30 second locking, it's not doing anything. How do you test this? Why doesn't the instructions say what beeps to expect?

I don't remember the process to set this, but I used it on mine. To test, simply unlock the door and wait about 30 seconds, you'll be able to see and hear the unit return to locked mode.

Is there a way to prevent this from locking accidentally by someone who brushes against the lock when closing the door?

You really cannot accidentally engage the lock. There are also keys that come with it Keep th on your side of the door I am pleased with the product.
