Is the board un-laminated? I need to be able to fold it without it splitting apart? It needs to be homogeneous without any surface layer(s) to split

I think it is quite strong with some sort of surface - it's not like pure cardboard that you can just about fold. Personally I would not be confident about folding it and succeeding.
