Craziest western I've ever read, but lotsa fun!
I have to say, I've never seen a story like this one...what a gem! It was as if my grandfather was sitting in his chair telling me this story. This story of a couple old cowhands and their crazy adventure needs to be shared by everyone, so hurry up and read this one, ok? :D

Book is just OK
Many of the chapters seem to just repeat themselves. This made the book a little bit too boring for me. I also felt the ending was disappointing. I don’t think I would recommend this book.

A great western that shows how easy it is to become a outlaw.
The Johnstones have done it again. They shown their ability to write a book that seems to be out of their comfort zone. Great job.

Different story
This book started out kind of slow put picked up each chapter. A little different than some of his other books but still worth reading.

A boost for us old people
Two cowboys dismissed as too old to keep on cowboying decide to hit the owlhoot trail. They come up with disguises to make to themselves look even older and go on a bank robbing spree. No gratuitous violence or sex, but several bits I thought were funny!

The Same Old...Same Old Story !!!!
This is mostly an amusing tale, with a lot of repetition of similar events. Two con artists in their mid forties disguise themselves as old men with wigs, fake mustaches, fake beards and make-up and end up robbing 2 banks and 2 trains, essentially in the same manner. In between the 4 robberies, they drift around various towns, deciding what meals to eat, beef stew, pork roast or rabbit stew, with coffee and then liquor, practically in every chapter and eventually, this gets tiresome. They carry their money in grain sacks and have to guard them from suspicious onlookers. There's not much action along the way, a few nasty people who try to bushwhack them, are shot down and this happens twice , almost under the same circumstances. It's not until the climax of this tale that a marshal is finally on their trail. It all ends in an unsatisfactory conclusion, the story feels unfinished as a stand alone tale. If The Smothers Brothers were to make a western, they would probably fit into the role of these 2 characters Casey Tubbs and Eli Doolin. This novel reminded me of the movie Groundhog Day, everything just keeps repeating over and over, even the dialogue. I'll have to wait for the sequel to see if anything is really settled.

Diffent story line but usual plot
Old cowboys become robbers. Then they become Robin Hood like taking from the poor and giving to the needy. I think the idea is for the reader to see them as do-gooder bad guys. Except they destroyed a lot of lives by stealing people savings. I was rooting for them to get caught and hung. Will pass on the rest of the series.
