The Rights of the Husband and Wife [al-Kharsah, Dr. Abdul Hadi, Lock, Mahdi] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. The Rights of the Husband and Wife Review: Its ok I was expecting more details - Its ok I was expecting more details Review: Focuses more on a wife’s duty to please than a husband’s duty to treat her well. - In this book, men are highlighted with much more context and information. Men are glorified. On the other hand, there is not a lot of information regarding women, their rights, and how a man should treat his wife. If a new Muslim man or woman read this book, they would not have a great understanding of women and their roles/values in a marriage, society, or a household. The man’s role in and how he should treat his wife or even female family members is almost *non-existent* in this book. There is nothing highlighting the treatment, care, respect, or approach that men should use with their wives. Almost all the conversations are directed towards how a woman should treat her husband in multiple scenarios. Also, the translations were very outdated. The book follows the Hanafi school. I felt like I was reading a cultural book rather than a book based on Islamic teachings and wisdom. It was extremely disappointing. So many beautiful hadiths of how the Prophet (SAW) treated and cared for his wives, yet the book couldn’t even highlight half of them.

I have read it with my wife. It solidifies the foundationnal understanding quite well and is contrasting with the modernist, liberal gynocentric western paradigm. I do recommend it.

Very informative book and as a Muslim this has changed my views on marriage between a man and a woman. Even if you’re not getting married I suggest you still read this book because it shows how the world we live in now has corrupted our understanding of our roles as men and women. It’s opened my eyes and things I used to be think were okay actually aren’t.

This book serves as a clear and insightful guide to navigating the complexities of marriage today. The author thoughtfully outlines each spouse’s duties, with commentary on each Hadith that deepens the reader’s understanding. Shaykh Mahdi Lock has done an excellent job making this work accessible to English speakers, as he has with many other Arabic texts. Highly recommended for anyone seeking both practical and spiritual guidance on marital rights and responsibilities.
