Excellent Tester for the Price. Simple to Use.
At £36.50 this was the cheapest tester I could find that included an Earth Loop Impedance check. Extremely simple to use: plug it in and turn the socket on. Green lights and continuous tone = good. Anything else bad - see enclosed leaflet. Won't trip the power unless you press the RCD test button (which is specifically to test tripping the RCD.)From another forum: less than 1.8 ohm loop impedance is considered good (green). 1.8 to 100 ohm. amber. More than 100 ohm red.

A comprehensive and easy to use test device
The first socket I plugged it into was a new double socket, which was less than a year old. As expected all was good, I then went around the house and found (so far) that all sockets but one, tested perfectly. The one that didn't showed a 'Check' light on the Earth Loop test. That's the socket which is nearest the cooker and probably is a bit gunky. I'll change it in due course, even though the socket is not used for anything. Most four way block extension leads provided the 'Check' light on the earth test, interestingly newer extension leads and ones that I have recently serviced all tested as 'perfect'.I consider this to be an excellent addition to my tools and once life reverts to normal after the covid pandemic and I'm travelling on business again, this will go with me everywhere before I plug laptops etc in. i.e. a great safety check device in hotels and B&B's too.

Great Price
Great price for a nice piece of kit almost half of what it can be purchased in a local DIY/Trade supplier

It seems to be a unique piece of kit. Essential...
The fist one I had stopped working after a being used about 20 times. I purchest a. Couple of them since and have given all but one of them away to people who would find them useful. As they test earth loop impedance from a 13 amp socket back to the consumer unit. I think it shows an error if it is greater than 1.5 ohms. Although I could not see that value mentioned in the instructions. Essential if you have the use of a mains pickup in a caravan or tent. Other test sockets generally do not provide this facility. If the earth impedance is higher, it could be dangerous. The metal case of a faulty appliance could experience a high voltage on its case without passing enough current to blow the fuse in the plug top on the appliance. Help!!!.

Important Mains Socket Tester
This Mains Socket Tester with Loop Check works.I tested all my electrical sockets in my house. It did warn there was a problem with one of them - When i exposed the wires in the back of the socket one of the earth wires was loose. I tightened the earth wire screw. screwed socket back on wall re-tested. All was well. Well worth buying = Very Pleased.

Quick and easy way to check potential problems.
Living in a house that’s over 100 years old, the wiring is very ‘suspect’ and we’ve been having annoying trips on one of the socket circuits for a few years now. Having replaced a few of the older sockets, this had improved things a little, but having subscribed to a few electricians YouTube channels, I later discovered that the earth wire is meant to be sleeved, and the few sockets I’ve replaced never had any. Also few had grommets in the back boxes. But decided to buy this socket tester as I know RCD trips can be caused by earth leakage. I decided to just try a random socket rather than one I suspect may have issues and to my surprise it was showing that the earth loop impedance needs looking at. This socket is quite old, so I will replace this at some point and may discover some poor installation. I’m not an electrician, but did study electronics servicing and was a car audio technician for a few years and have the sense to not take a chance with anything live. But this socket tester at least can do a safe and quick insight into potential dodgy sockets and I can point this out if an electrician is needed. But having seen various electricians use these for quickly identifying various circuits when doing an EICR, I’mconfident that even the professionals would agree this is an excellent choice for the money.
