The kit includes 3 fast assembly A9 Cruiser Mk I tanks with optional parts to build any of the A9, A9 Desert Version or A9 Close Support. The kits also include tank commanders. The A9 was also known as the Cruiser MK I and was designed as a light, mobile tank to bypass enemy lines and engage enemy communication lines. The A9 was introduced in the inter war years and was designed by Sir John Carden of Vickers-Lloyd. The A9 was armed with a 2 pounder and a coaxial Vickers machine as well as two smaller turrets on either side of the driver's compartment housing another machine each. This meant the tank had a crew of 6. The A9 entered service in 1936 and 125 were produced. The suspension and a lower hull was utilised in the later British Valentine tank. The later Mk I A9 CS had a 3.7" (94mm) L15 Howitzer which only fired smoke rounds. The A9 service with the BEF in France in 1940 as well as in the Greek and North African campaigns. The Desert Version featured skirts to reduce the adverse impact of sand. The 2 Pounder served well against the Italian tanks but poorly against the German tanks. The general lack of armour made the A9 vulnerable to enemy fire. Ideal for wargaming custom scenarios or just building for display this brand new kit is a beauty. Not to be missed.
