I have some curb rash on the black rims of my Mazda3. I tried painting them in the past but driving, rain or the car wash would all cause the paint to eventually fade away. This is my third paint that I’m trying and it has been the best one so far! It does not have an overly watery consistency that washes away. It is a glossy black that matches the rim and it sticks without fading. I have driven over 1k miles, multiple rainstorms and car washes and only a small section has needed to be retouched up. Highly recommended!!!

So, what do you think happened shortly after I spent a couple grand in new rims and tires for my 20 year old Lexus???? You guessed it! I tagged a curb turning into the driveway. I saw a shiny object, and got distracted for a moment. This is not the first time this has happened :) Previously, I had chrome rims, however they became oxidated within a couple of years after moving close to the beach. No big deal, the chrome rims were 18 years old so they had seen their better days. The guy at the tire store suggested switching to matt black rims that, in his opinion, would survive the salt air much better than chrome. Ok I said, I’m in. I forgot to take into consideration that if you nick a black rim, you will quickly discover that that beautiful black matt is just a facade. Imagine my surprise when I checked out the damage (it wasn’t really that bad), and felt tears welling up in my eyes. Off to Amazon I went. I found this wheel touch up paint and ordered it. That was this past February. I finally got over my fear of messing the rim up further by using cheesy repair paint, so I just went for it. It is now the end of May, so you can imagine how scared I was. 😂 There is nothing to fear. This touch up paint worked really well. My suggestion would be to do very thin coats. It took three coats on my damage to finish the job. Don’t try to completely cover all the damage in the first coat. I have attached a series of numbered pictures that show the steps I took, including the damage, the three coats, and the last picture is when the paint dried. The paint does dry pretty fast using thin coats. I couldn’t be happier with the result! The color matched perfectly and blended in very nicely with the rest of the rim. I’m going to try my best to pay attention going forward, but we’ll see how that goes. Will update this review in a month or so after I see how the repair wears. UPDATE: It’s been almost three months and about 5,000 miles. My DIY rim repair still looks so good that I couldn’t even find the spot that I repaired! So far, this touch up paint is passing with flying colors. No new nicks, but if I happen to see another shiny object, I won’t cry, I’ll just fix the damage 😜

Great quality for the price

This is the second time I had scuffed up a rim, a different rim though. The first one was bad enough I got it professionally repaired, which was about $200. This time it was just the outside in 3 spots not really huge, but I did not want to spend another $200+ on a rim within 2 years. This helped make my rim look better from afar. Keep in mind it doesn't make it go away. If I am up close I can see it, but far enough away it is like normal again. I'd recommend it if you keep in mind that it isn't perfect, but it gets the job done. For major damage, I would consult with a repair shop.
