Works and Looks Just Like OEM. Review includes DIY steps
This trunk switch perfectly replaced the 19 year old switch in my 2006 BMW 330i, and I believe it would work in other E90 BMW's as well as others. The only difference I can see between this switch and the old one was its rubber member at the top; which is solid and intact, unlike the old one that had turned to an dissolving mess that left a sticky black residue on my fingers. Much greater value for money than the OEM version. Functions just like the original switch, and looks identical to the original. Buy it with confidence! 5-Stars!Replacing it was not difficult, but is easier with one of the plastic tools that help remove the fasteners that hold the trunk lid trim panel in place. Replacing the switch requires these steps:1. remove the glow-in-th-dark emergency trunk opener tab from the its cable so that the cable can pass though the trim when it is removed.2. remove the trim panel by prying the center button of its 8 fasteners about ½ inch away from the fastener's flange.3. pull the switch's 2 cable assembly retainers from the trunk lid to provide slack in the assembly (allows the switch to be pulled away from the lid far enough to remove the electrical cable from the switch),4. disconnect the electrical cable from the switch be simply pulling it out5. reach into the trunk lid and press down on the top of the switch while prying the top of the switch away from the outside face of the lid with a tool6. lift the bottom of the switch up and pull the switch out of the lid7. pull cable’s connector out of the switch’s connector. There is nothing holding it except friction8. connect the cable to the new switch9. install the new switch in the lid by inserting the bottom portion of the switch first then snapping in the top of the switch.10. put everything back together in reverse order.
