Intense expansion!
Now that I have played Catan for a while, I decided to try this version. Oh boy, this must be an intense yet fun expansion for Catan. If you enjoy Catan for its simplicity, I wouldn't recommend this expansion since this adds a whole new layer of complexity to the game, albeit not as complex as Conquerors. When I played this game with my friends, it became a blast, we all were nervous about the barbarians that were inching closer to the island. I believe the threat of losing a city makes this fun. Also, depending on who you play with, this game is not COOP at all. The box, reviewers, and Youtubers all said that this expansion was about working together to fight off those pesky barbarians using your knights... well that was a lie. My friends will constantly find ways to destroy my cities, making the looming barbarians extremely intense. I honestly loved this expansion, I found the intensity fun and completely changes how you play. Even though you still need to build settlements and roads to get resources, the threat of barbarians, unbuyable progress cards (that replace development cards), and the merchant, make this game different, which is not bad. So, if you enjoy the Catan for its simplicity, I wouldn't recommend this pack. However, if you like to play coop (or intense pressure), this is the pack for you. The expansion is well-made and adds more replayability to Catan. The best part is that it is compatible with seafarers, so it allows you to have boats which I love.

We love Catan
This expansion is a fun addition to the Catan game. A little pricey but my family loves to play this game.

More Strategy
I would say that this expansion adds a healthy amount of complexity to the game of Catan. There’s definitely more strategy, more things to think about, and more content so it’s fun!

More skill based rather than luck of the numbers
Love this expansion. In regular Catan, you could be built on the best numbers and hexes but still lose because 3s and 11s get rolled all game and not your 6s and 8s. Yes, you still need your numbers to get rolled to make progress in this expansion, but there’s so many different avenues and strategies to take that I’d call it a much more skill based and strategic game rather than just being the lucky guy who gets to draw all the time. Minor side note- this doesn’t make me want to deduct it any stars, but you literally have to sticker every single active and inactive knight onto their corresponding pieces when you get the game brand new. You’d think with how much this game costs they’d spare the hindrance.

6th Edition Review
Long time Catan player here, decided to upgrade to the 6th edition (we purchased base game, seafarers and C&K all at once). Gameplay is the same as all previous editions so I’m not reviewing that, just sharing some thoughts on the new edition: Like: The barbarian invasion is integrated into the board now which is really fun. It feels like they are really invading the island now! The new artwork is all really cute and it’s fun to look at all the details. Instead of flipping your city development cards, you now move a small block up a card. This is easier but we commented that if you were not familiar with C&K we feel this new format is more confusing. The metropolis pieces are color coded and the walls fit to the cities better. Dislike: The knights are now wooden pieces and it makes it much harder to keep track of how many are on the board because they blend in with your routes and settlements etc. They also look like little rude fingers lol. The green of the paper and light green of cloth is hard to differentiate - especially on the dice. The cloth and sheep, paper and wood, and coin and ore cards all look very similar and it’s easy to mistake one for the other. Cloth should have been yellow! The progress cards have been renamed - some of them are slight changes like The Alchemist is now Alchemy, but others are completely different names, so it will take some time to adjust. Overall, these are changes that we will adapt to over time, but I think we will still use the old knights and the small VP chits from the old games as they are better.

Very fun to play with, though the manual is bit difficult to read, I had to ask AI to tell me what exactly some rules mean. I feel like it is faster to get Victory points than the original catan, but it is more exciting, and you kind of have to work together at the same time, you need to win.
