Madison Reed hair color
I like the Madison Reed brand. I've been using their Medium Chocolate Brown for years. It's gentle on my hair and skin, and the dye color has been consistent throughout. Gray coverage is very good, but not perfect. Two weeks after coloring, a little silver begins to show through, though not enough to make me want to switch brands.

Amazing color
I absolutely love this hair dye and will definitely be purchasing it again. The results truly feel salon-quality—nothing like the cheaper, more commercial dyes I’ve tried before. The color comes out rich, vibrant, and incredibly shiny, and it lasts much longer than I expected. My hair looks healthy and professionally done every time I use it. I’m so happy I finally found the perfect hair dye for me. Highly recommend!

Highly recommend
I tried the 4NGV color and I am super pleased with the results. Gorgeous color, excellent grey coverage! The smell was not noticeable at all and there was absolutely no stinging on my scalp. Best dye product I've used so far. I highly recommend it.

Might be great for short hair or hair not previously colored. For me? Awful.
I used Light Golden Red, &7NCG, Genova Red. On the package, the color looked like an exact match for my original hair color. (I have just enough grey, here & there throughout my hair, to want to cover it... for now, anyway. Vanity... right? lol ) I fell in love with Madison Reed's packaging and the thoughtfulness shown in this very complete hair color kit. The messaging in it dazzled me, as well. Using the product, I didn't care for the smell of it, but it wasn't nearly as bad as some ammonia-based hair color products. So far, so good. In addition, I was impressed by how much hair color was included. Even with long, thick hair, I was able to cover everything from the roots to the very longest tips of my hair, and do so completely. The included shampoo and conditioner were both lavish and generous. Again, as someone with very thick hair, this was appreciated. But then, fresh from the shower, I looked in the mirror. Umm... It looked like the color coverage wasn't consistent. Not even close. Worse, when my hair was dry, the color at the top of my head was spectacular, but starting at about ear level, the color was much darker. Indoors, it looks almost black. On someone as fair-skinned as me, the effect was jarring. Suddenly, every freckle and laugh line seemed more obvious. This was NOT flattering. Oddly, the ends of my hair barely took any color at all. That was fine, because naturally colored hair is usually lighter (sun bleached) at the ends. In the accompanying photo, my head is tilted, so I'm looking up. You're seeing the top of my head as well as my back. Also, that picture was taken on a slightly overcast day, so the variations in color aren't due to extreme lighting. It looks far worse indoors, but I think the photo conveys the essense of the problem. Note: It's been a few years since I was a hair model, but I picked up a lot of hair coloring tips from the pros. So, I'm still mindful of the importance of coloring my hair thoroughly and consistently, and following package directions - to the letter - for the best results. In other words, it's not as if I smothered the top of my head with hair dye, and just loosely spread the rest of my hair with far lighter coverage. Likewise, I didn't douse the middle (now darkest) band of my hair with extra color, or omit coloring the ends, either. To me, it looks like this hair color should not be used on long, previously colored hair. I'd ask for a refund if I had anything to return to the seller, but - of course - I used the complete package. So, at best, that was a waste of $30. I'm going to wait a week so my hair has time to recover, and then I'll be using an "oops!" products to remove the Madison Reed hair color. Fingers crossed, it'll restore how my hair looked before using Madison Reed's hair color. (If that doesn't work, Plan B is to streak my hair with blonde. At worst, it'll look "artsy.") I'll agree that the Madison Reed hair color at the top of my head looks exactly as I'd hoped. It's very close to the color shown on the product's packaging. The probem is: The rest of my hair looks awful. If your hair is short - and, preferably, has never been colored before - you may love Madison Reed. For me, this was an extremely distressing experience. Fortunately, I work at home. This week, only my family will see my hair. If I go out, I'll wear a hat. Then, my hair will look oddly dark with almost blonde sun-bleaching at the ends. Short-term, I'm okay with that. I was tempted to give this product two stars because the packaging was a delight to read, and the included gloves, cap, shampoo, and conditioner were wonderful extras. However, I'm so disappointed by the product itself, I have to give this one star, and share my experience with others, so they don't make a similar mistake.

Nice color, just a little pricey. Still better than the shop!
Color is great, includes everything you need, but it’s very high price for what it is! It honestly is very nice hair color though, but it would be very expensive for just a root touch up.

best stain prevention ever !!
Color Kit comes with: - cleansing wipe - gloves - barrier cream - color protecting shampoo/conditioner - cap (forgot to use) i was nonplussed reading reviews about a bad smell, as i'm used to the chemically ammonia smell from cheaper dyes. This one smelled like a fart as soon as i mixed it together. i thought my roommate got dome funny takeout or maybe i just broke wind and didn’t even know it ? that’s some geriatric type stuff, im only 26 thankfully it was just the dye, and the smell didn’t even last long. once the dye was applied there was a faint chemical-ly smell but wayyy less potent than the cheaper ammonia based dyes i’ve used in the past. the cleansing wipe and the barrier cream were a great help in preventing my skin from staining. the barrier cream worked great but i was conservative w it bc i forgot how much of a mess i make all over my neck when i dye. cue the cleansing wipe. when i tell you i was in AWE at the sheer power of this wipe it left NO TRACE of the dye on my skin with just a couple gentle wipes. something inconceivable for an alcohol soaked cotton ball or makeup remover. the color was a smidge darker than i anticipated, but i dig it! was kind of terrified that i'd start losing hair given some of these reviews, but thankfully it's been almost a week and no hair loss <3 i say give it a try !

My color not same as last
At first the color was perfect. I didn’t have time for Color Seal. So 2 days later, I used water, put in color seal for a few minutes, and afterwards the brown washed out and left with slight red residue! Very disappointing. I saved some shampoo and conditioning and it also lightened my hair. Ugh. Won’t use again. Too pricy.

Love this shade and the ease of using the product. My hair is soft and shiny. It’s the only product I’ve tried that doesn’t make my scalp itch after application.
