Works well for sprouting seeds.

This is the second year I have purchased the Coast of Maine Sprout Island Organic Seed Starter soil. It worked well for me, last year and this year. Our edible garden is organic so I wanted to choose an organic seed starting soil too. It is slightly damp when you open the bag, but will dry out fairly soon (if that is what you want) by leaving the bag slightly open. It is fine and friable enough for new seedlings to sprout. I have not had an issue with soil compaction or the soil getting too wet and drowning the newly sprouted seedlings. It seems to provide a good balance of dampness and good drainage. The seedlings have sprouted consistently and grown quickly in this soil mix. I'm definitely purchasing this again in the future.

Great for seed germination

I have been using in self watering planters for seed germination. This holds moisture well and has resulted in great results. My seedlings have thrived and seem to be doing well even after transplanting to the garden. Great soul!

Amazing

I read the reviews about this amazing garden soil. My My My what a dark rich miracle soil. All my starters are root happy strong and my potato plants as you can see are thriving and have very thick stalks. This soil is and will be my all time use in my garden.

Too many twigs

All my seedlings sprouted so I'll definitely rate it higher than coco coir but there were too many twigs and even bark. Had to keep sifting which was a bit of a nuisance.

The best we've ever used!

My husband and I start veggies indoors every winter. We used to use the seed starting mix that the local store sold, but the last couple years the quality has dropped significantly. We used this mix this year, and the seeds loved it!! Rapid germination and healthy, healthy seedlings.

Trash dirt

The brand and quality of this is excellent. Not from this seller tho!! Filled with sticks, rocks, white flies, and clover mites. This seller will ruin your crops!!!

Amazing growth difference between another mix

I was curious to see if there would be a difference between this seed starting mix and another one that my dad always used with great success. I started all my seeds half in this mix, and half in the other. I started them all at the same time and all in the same conditions i.e. light, water, temperature. The seeds started in the other mix seemed to sprout a day or two earlier than seeds started in this mix, but within a day or so of each other. However, fast forward now 17 days later and the difference in growth is insane! See pictures. The larger plant is the one started in this seed mix. It is a Roma tomato. I started four different varieties of tomatoes and they all have this difference. Peppers do not seem to have as big a difference nor do eggplant, but they haven’t been growing for as long so we’ll see how they turn out. The difference with these tomato starts however is incredible! I will definitely be continuing to use this for seed starting and I think my dad is a convert as well! I will update further in the season to see if there’s any difference in production.
