The Artist's Manual: The Definitive Art Sourcebook: Media, Materials, Tools, and Techniques

The book is a small history of art. I think it is a good introduction to new painters and even old ones. I gave it to a graduating Senior along with a scholarship in honor of my daughter(Artist, Teacher amazing person who died too soon) The book is engaging and explains art terms to the beginning art Students. A good reference book for everyone!!

I would call this a Broad Guide to All Art Techniques. As an artist, you tend to work in certain mediums and others are sort of a mystery as to how they are created and what tools are used. This book kind of addresses that. It really is an interesting very broad blend of almost every form of art, all types of drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, etc. The book also weaves in general artistic principles that apply to most if not all artistic medium. But, be forewarned, this is a broad, not deep guide. If you’re looking for deep instruction on any particular medium, I would look somewhere else. I think this book is a nice work for people who are artists or have a broad interest in the arts. You will definitely learn things you did not know about particular mediums, styles and techniques but it’s more to wet your interest than function as a deep dive. Each medium and it’s tools and some basic techniques are outlined. It’s concise and well presented.The book also covers digital mediums and installation art works as well as well as some design principles related to graphic design and digital mediaIt’s a book I would definitely recommend for an art lover or art practitioner just so long as they know that it is and what it’s not going into it.

It's one of the best book for artists I can find. It contains a lot of essential information about various topics related to art, too. It's well designed and durable. I'd recommend it for anyone interested in all of the things that art involves.

2.5 stars. Contains just a snippet of information on more than 125 topics. Although well done, I really don't see much value in it except for possibly giving you a glimpse into some product of which you were unaware.

The perfect addition to any studio! This book inspires and informs. A great quick reference or a book to delve into more deeply. Great service too! It arrived better than described (as it was a used book) and in perfect time! I'm very happy!

I purchased the KINDLE version: An excellent art foundation/GCSE/short art course guide book for those who wish to study fine art and develop their skills/personal visual language in different media. I study drawing, painting, printmaking with online short courses and found this book an essential guide.
