Is this sled good for older kids?  I have a 9, 12, and 16 year old.  .

This sled would be perfect for your 9 year old.  12 and 16 maybe not.  Although my big married sons, one 6'2", 190 lbs. rode the sled with his 1 year old daughter.  One son is 200 lbs. and he rode it but not over rough terrain, just down a long curving hill.  I rode it at 160 lbs. and it was great fun.Our 7 and 5 year old grand kids had a fantastic time.  We started at the top of a long, pretty steep hill, they could zip in and out and around sage brush, rocks, any obstacle because of the steering ability.  We didn't crash them or try to take them over jumps but we had the best time.We bought 5 of these sleighs and are very pleased with them.Good Luck!

Question 2

My son will be 4 shortly after Christmas. Can a barely for year old handle this sled?

It depends on the child, but I would say yes, but start him on small hills with low incline to see how he does.  Once he gets the handle of the steering and breaks, he should be fine. Some kids are more coordinated then others with steering/braking, but if he has handled any of the motorized battery cars or even a scooter/bike, he should do fine.  It is a really great sled, and would be one to grow into for sure. It is good for pulling him along trails too, since the skis ride nicely on packed snow. It is very stable. We've had this sled for a few years now(bought for a 6 year old, now 9 year old) and it is still going strong, although we did have the front ski break after running into an icy snow bank. The company replaced it free of charge after I emailed requesting replacement parts, and they didn't even charge shipping. My younger boy who just turned 4 went down very gradually hills last winter on it, and I plan on letting him use it more this year.

Can somebody pull you buy a rope

Yes, there's a notch on the front ski, or can just loop it around the wheel, but I wouldn't pull anyone too heavy...only a small kid.

What is the maximun recommended rider weight?

We don't know what the maximum "recommended" weight is but we just took ours out for the first time.  Our sons rode the sleds with their youngest children (1-2 years).  They are at least 180 lbs. and the kids at least 20 lbs.  Of course this wasn't on a rough or steep hill.  Our 4 and 6 year old grand kids had a blast on these.  They could easily steer and brake.  For the adults riding the steering wasn't as accurate because of too much weight on the back end.  We couldn't believe how fun these were.  My husband tried to talk me into 10 of these.  We bought four and it was great that each of the kids had their own to ride and could all go down the hill together.  Another plus is that they aren't too heavy to carry back up the hill.
