Maintains temperature to within a degree. Terrific for eggs, all kinds of frying; soup etc
I bought the commercial version which is bigger but doesn't have as many bells and whistles as the home model. I use it every day. It brings a pot or pan up to temperature in seconds and holds the temperature you set. I do omelettes at 220 degrees and they come out perfect. Fried eggs at 190 degrees come out looking just like the ones on the emoji! No crinkling and no burning. Best things is its ability to hold fry oil at exactly 350 degrees (or whatever you set) and get the oil back up to temp within seconds of dropping room temp food into it. It came with a probe for oil and (separate) probe for water (think soup). Set it and leave it. It has a 10' burner and came with a carrying case. I will take it to my summer home with me. I plan to get a full induction cooktop, but when I do I will keep this for use on a sideboard. Because of its pan temperature sensor, automatic nature and precise control of temperatures. (Be aware it works only with ferrous pans, such as cast iron, carbon steel, stainless steel PLUS aluminum or copper pans built with a ferrous bottom piece. If a magnet sticks to the bottom it is good to go).

The absolute best induction cooker
This is my third induction cooker, and hopefully my last. The first two cookers were not exactly what I expected. Temperature control was terrible, only small cookware could be used, no features other than a timer. This Breville Control Freak is like cooking on a gas stove, but MUCH MUCH better. This thing is precise, very precise. It is programmable,. allowing for pre-programming setting for boiling eggs the way you like them, perfect rice, awesome seared meats and much much more. This thing is just perfect. You can control how fast it heats up to prevent warping your valuable cookware, it gets super hot on high, works well with all inductive cookware from cast iron, stainless steel, carbon steel and inductive cookware. It uses a standard 120V wall plug and is very portable. I have even used it several time using a portable power station. Boiling water is super fast, and simmering foods is like on a gas range. Oh, I forgot, it is built like a tank. Super, fantastic build quality. It come complete with a terrific padded suitcase like bag that will definitely protect it in storage and transportation. It also had a temperature probe that has a neat holder for clamping it to the side of your pans/pots. It also had a built in temperature sensor at the center to the cooking surface to monitor the temperature of the cookware for precise control. It is super quiet and very energy efficient. I can't say enough about this thing. I would give it more stars if I could. It is worth every penny spent, it is, regardless of the price, a great value for what it can do.

Worth the price for PERFECTLY cooked foods!
Expensive? Yes. But for our family of four (all adults) everyone uses it constantly because it is freaking awesome! My Hollandaise sauce comes out perfect every time.Poached eggs… also always perfect now.Homemade tortillas cooked to perfection.Need a big pot of water boiling? Wow, so fast!Wish we had six of these as burners instead of the gas cooktop I previously “loved!”

Amazing, with a learning curve
I love this. We got it first because we were in a rental with a gas range. 1800W boiled water 2-3x faster. But the control and repeatability are amazing. You do need to learn some important temperatures; keep warm (160F), cook without boiling (200F), temp for oil to not smoke (~350F), searing (425F).And yes, I also use all the temperatures in between. I sous vide in a regular pot, keep sauces/soups/hot chocolate ready to serve, I use it to gently warm water to desired temps (yeast to ~105F), temper chocolate, take sugar/candy to desired temps, gently evaporate water without the risk of burning...It took my wife about a year to fully get used to it, now she very much prefers it to a regular range. She mostly uses the main temps I mentioned. The big downside is the power limit of 1800W, I have a separate 3500W unit for when I want to heat a lot of water fast or sear a lot of food.Temperatures are somewhat pan dependent, I like a heavy disc bottom without a stamp in the middle (to not interfere with the sensor) for larger pans, and I like clad sauce pans.

It's a beast
This induction burner is far above the rest in quality and features. Of course so is the price. It is a bit more expensive than it should be but there is nothing else that even comes close to its performance. Drawbacks besides the price are that there is little guidance or recipes on the Breville website. Because this induction burner works somewhat differently than other induction burners, I could use some guidance. There are some recipes on Reddit, with a site dedicated to this unit. It takes some getting used to, it's a bit complicated. It has a USB port, a memory, and a plug in thermometer that you can use for liquids or sous vide. It's large, and heavy, which I perceive as a good thing. If you have limited space this might be an issue. It's portable I suppose as it comes with a really nice padded case. But it's really heavy. I wouldn't lug this thing around. But overall, I love it. I love almost everything Breville.
