Q: Is the bag comfortable to carry? The handles seem like they may be too short.

I like the short handle... it allowed me to tuck it under my arm and carry my dog close to me. I have also carried it like a tote with my arm down - you need the shorter handles otherwise it would drag on the ground. This bag suits my needs - the only addition I would like to see is to have some kind of fleece or other lining inside.

Q: Is this bag fine for a cat? can they scape?

it states that it's for small dogs, but I guess you could use it for a cat. I must admit that I only tried to use mine once and now use a larger duffle bag carrier. The purse appeared to be a tight fit and with out much ventilation for my puppy. He was only around 4 lbs last time I tried to use it.

I don't have the answer to your first 2 questions. I don't think its airline approved, but you can always call the airline and ask for their requirements. I have a 5lbs Yorkie-Poo which makes her a small puppy. She is the size of a teacup but my dog in particular will grow bigger than a teacup. Still, I love this bag even though Ill have to get a bigger one later on.
