Snakes are brightly colored and have been a great deterrent for birds and geckos staying off my porch.

4 stars for personal desire to have these be more realistic and more rubber line and flexible. Otherwise they are very nice and would work well in a garden or wherever you might want to deter critters or birds

I have 4 blueberry bushes and these fake snakes didn't do anything to keep the birds away. They make better decorations than bird deterrents. They may have kept some smaller ones away, but it didn't do much. I saw numerous Mockingbirds and Red headed house sparrows enjoying my blueberries here in South Georgia on several occasions with many remains of the ripe ones on the ground that they didn't finish. After about a month of hoping something would change and see if they would eventually work they never did. I probably lost half of my berries and had to take these down as well as about 8 foil predator eye discs and 8 foil whirly birds I picked up at the Dollar Tree. I had these things scattered everywhere too and had to go back with bird netting. Bird Netting is a p.i.t.a. to put up taking about 2 hours, but it works. So at least I hopefully will be able to harvest some berries now, because otherwise I have picked about 10 berries so far that the birds didn't get.

I bought these to deter squirrels and blue jays, both of which like to dig around my plants while burying seeds, etc. The first few days the snakes were 100% effective -- not a single plant destroyed after literally daily depredations. The effect didn't last, though, so I moved the snakes to new locations hoping to scare them again -- and it worked. I plan to move the snakes to new locations every other day or so, and hopefully this will keep the pests at bay. It's a relief to find something that works at all -- blood meal works, but once wet loses its effectiveness. Some people put out cayenne (works for squirrels, not for birds) but I think it's kind of mean to burn the squirrel's hands and mouths, since as with people cayenne can actually damage mucus membranes if the concentration is high enough. The snakes work well to keep the pests at bay, nobody gets hurt, and it's much easier than covering the soil with planks or cardboard. If you have a bird or squirrel problem and want a humane, environmentally-friendly solution, you should give these a try.

I am hoping to keep the sapsuckers (birds) from killing my walnut trees.

Product is no where as big as is stated. Not even 10 inches long and much thinner than shown. Do not buy, you will be disappointed!
