HFS(R) Electric Solenoid Valve Copper Normally Closed for Water Air Gas (110V AC 1/2IN NPT)

Bought this to run gas on my MIG welder. With a few hose fittings, this woks great on my welder. The factory kit was over $200; I spent maybe $70 for the same stuff.

This is a plain diaphragm-type (not a spool) solenoid valve. I have not used this one but I have used several similar ones in the past. They do work. The one I bought this time is my 1st one with 1/4" trade size ports. I have used them mostly for water but this one will be for an air line. The coils are removable so I assume the actual valve part (for a given port size) is the same and they just swap coils for different voltages. The wire leads are not too long so you'll most likely need to extend them somehow. BTW the 5-7 KGF/CM2 (kilogram_force per square centimeter) equates to 71 to 99 psi, but the label on the valve that I received says "MIN 0kg/cm2 MAX 10kg/cm2" which would be 0 to 142 psi). The other comments about following the flow direction arrow are correct so put your higher and probably more continuous pressure on the 'tail' of the arrow (in the brass casting) and the 'controlled' side of your plumbing on the pointy end of the arrow; i.e. the flow goes the same as the arrow direction. If you look into the unplumbed ports you can see that the 'tail' side is 'above' the diaphram which is the controlling part of the valve and thus should have higher pressure in order to close off (this is a normally closed valve).

I have an outdoor water fountain and it looses water while running all day. I needed a system to add a small amount of water without running over. I hooked this solenoid valve up to a relay connected to my driveway lights. The fountain comes on in the morning when my lights go out. The solenoid does get a little warm due to the electricity flowing through it but I wouldn't call it "hot." It's a solidly constructed brass valve. The threads appeared to be cut cleanly; however, either due to the valve or the fittings I got I had to use a generous amount of teflon tape which worked just fine.

I bought 5 of them and installed them outside to water our flowers in front of the house automatically, using SONOFF WiFi switches. I was a bit skeptical because of some people who said that did not last or got stuck immediately. Until now (after about 6 months), I have had no problem at all.The second photo shows how I protected the electrical connections with a commonly available plastic box of which I cut off the cover and fixed it on a wall.

I purchased the valve rated 110AC/12DC but to my surprise it does not work with DC, I have a regulated power supply, and it just doesn't get activated. AC works without a problem, I'll update this once I put it to actual use. I'm a bit concerned now reading more reviews in detail...

This valve is working as anticipated, was easy to install and does not leak water. These do have to be installed in the proper flow direction and will likely leak if installed incorrectly. Time will tell how long these will last, hopefully a long time!

The valve does not shut off completely. Substantial bypass leakage in "closed" position which makes it useless. Don't waste your time installing this.
