Litter Genie is a cat litter disposal system that makes is easier and more convenient to scoop your cat's litter box frequently. More frequent scooping keeps litter box smells to a minimum which, in turn, makes it less likely that your cat will poop or pee somewhere outside the litter box.The way it works is this: You take a Litter Genie refill, which is basically a very long tube of plastic that is scrunched up into a plastic holder, and install it under the snap down refill holder (which is very much like a toilet seat with a lid.) There are directions included with the Litter Genie that are really good and show you exactly how to install the refill. You will be pulling down at least a foot of the film and then tying a knot in the bottom.Once you get the refill part installed, here's how to use it. When you're ready to scoop your cat's litter box, open the top lid. Scoop the poo and clumped litter into the toilet seat-like opening. When the upper area becomes full, grasp the plastic flange that is located on the front toward the middle and push down on the little button (located in the flange) while pulling the flange toward you. If you look through the top opening, you will see that pulling the flange releases the soiled litter into the bottom area of the Litter Genie. When it has passed through to the bottom, release the flange and the separator will snap back into place. This separator serves as an odor barrier so that days worth of dirty litter can be stored in the Genie without the foul smell.When the bottom becomes full, you'll need to empty it. The way you go this is to push the button on the middle front of the Genie that is located just beneath where the Genie is divided in half. Pushing the button releases the top half of the Genie so you can fold it back. You can then see the full plastic bag at the bottom. Just pull down more film from the top and then slide it into the cutter located just above the hinge in the back. It is clearly marker CUTTER. You want to be sure to leave enough film at the top of the full bag after you cut so that you can easily tie a knot to close it for disposal. Tie the knot and then lift the full bag out of the Genie. Finally, pull down about a foot of fresh film and tie a knot at the bottom. That's it.The Litter Genie comes with the Genie itself, one refill, one litter scoop, the scoop holder you hang off the side of the Genie and the instruction manual. The scoop is a good quality, plastic one but I already have a metal scoop I really like and it fits perfectly in the holder.I bought a Litter Genie a couple of years ago for my daughter, who had 3 cats at the time. She lives in a city where they have banned the plastic grocery bags, which she had previously been using. This was such a huge improvement for them over the old method because one of her cats had a health issue that caused him to make the smelliest poo - several times a day. Litter Genie made it easy to scoop immediately after he pooped and it truly kept the smell confined to the bottom of the Genie. They are still using it every day and it still performs great.I have 5 cats and I thought one Genie wouldn't be able to keep up with all of the daily waste. Then someone mentioned the silver one was on sale for ~$10, so I bought 3 for my house. (It's more of a battleship grey color than silver.) I keep one downstairs where I have 2 litter boxes and I keep the other two upstairs, where I have 4 litter boxes. This is working very well for me. With 3 Genies, I'm only having to empty them about once a week.Of course, the biggest expense is the refills. Personally, I think they are way overpriced - kinda like ink cartridges for printers. So this is a major thing you want to consider before buying Litter Genie. Looking for them on sale and on eBay and buying whenever you find a good deal can mitigate the costs. Also, you CAN use tall kitchen trash bags as a substitute for the refills. It does work and the Genie still keeps the smells trapped in the bottom, but it's not quite as convenient. Still, I like knowing I can do this just in case I run out of Genie refills and haven't ordered more.If you have a litter box in your house that must be scooped, you might like the Litter Genie as much as I do.

This thing is a lifesaver. I was running out to the trash bins everyday after cleaning my cats litter box, then a friend told me about the Litter Genie and it is a game changer for sure. It holds a lot and keeps the smell contained to inside the bag. I have recommended this to other people who have cats. I could never go back to not having one of these. Highly highly recommended.

As a proud cat dad, I can’t recommend this product enough! Initially, I thought it was just an unnecessary expense and held off on buying it for years. However, after using it for a few weeks, my perspective has completely changed. This product significantly reduces litter box odors, whether it's full or mostly empty. It can comfortably handle waste from two cats for up to a week, although I wouldn’t suggest pushing it that far due to hygiene considerarion.Overall, this is an excellent product that’s simple to set up. It makes cleaning up after my cats much easier. It’s lightweight, and the lid is durable. Plus, it comes with a handy litter scoop and a scoop caddy that attaches to the side for convenient storage. If you're a cat owner, do yourself a favor and get this!!!

Works really well for our litter boxes. We have one on each floor. Keeps smell away. Very easy to use. However, get off brand bag refills; they’re MUCH cheaper and work just as well. We really like the litter genie pails though.

Didnt want to get another electric device that only kind of worked so we opted to get a double litter box enclosure, two stainless steel litterboxes and this litter genie.Firstly it does what it says, its just a fancy spell proof bathroom trashcan. So, does what advertised and better than a bathroom trashcan with a lid can do.However, my biggest complaints come from the materials, construction and price. The entire thing is plastic and no matter how hard you try eventually it will get scratched and come into contact with the excrement; so eventually it will begin to smell and have to be replaced. That would be fine if this cost as much as the plastic its made of. The scoop is also plastic, and the storage for the scoop is outside the container...why bother trying to keep the smells contained if you are just going to put the scoop out in the open...We wrap the scoop in a plastic bag for the time being until we can get a stainless steel scoop that will be cleanable.The design that required a cartridge trash bag. It comes with one and then you can get off brand ones but not only are they a waste of money (because its just trash bags, come on.) and specifically designed to corner you into buying their bags. We will like try to find a stainless steel insert or equivalent to replace or fix this one. We also are able to just open the container at the mid way and use regular compostable bags but be careful as they may get tears where it closes.All in all it does what it says, we don't smell anything and daily cleaning is less of a pain.

What can I say... where has the Litter Genie been all my life? How did I not know about this sooner? Check out the multitude of videos out there about the Litter Genie and how easy and convenient it is to use and change the bags. This is just the best system for the daily cleaning of the cat box. The "bag" lasts a long time. Cutting it, tying it off and throwing away the yuck is easy. It really locks in the odor and makes disposing of kitty waste a breeze. Be aware that this product has specific bag refills but they are very reasonable and last a long time. The good reviews out there don't lie, this is a fantastic product that I wish I'd found decades ago! I'm very happy with this purchase in every way.
