Dr. Harvey'sSpecialty Diet Healthy Weight Beef Recipe, Human Grade Dehydrated Dog Food with Beef (5 Pounds)

Our dog has a very special circumstance going on where she has acute pancreatitis and that has caused some amount of kidney injury. This is very low in fat and we have been struggling with "prescription" dog food for her condition that is just a nightmare. She wouldn't eat it. We were feeding her solely ground beef and millet / buckwheat but the protein is too high given her kidney injury and it is a chicken vs. egg scenario for weeks now. I found this "healthy weight" food -- as food for overweight dogs seems to be pretty low in fat -- ~10% so that the pancreatitis isn't an issue.Our dog *INHALES* this food. I mean we actually had to transition her with much lower portion sizes more gradually because of her sensitive stomach and how much she loves this food. Which is actually a problem because she is now pretty much refusing the "premium" healthy weight Costco kibble we were trying to feed her previously.Unfortunately Quercetin is an ingredient only in this Dr. Harvey's food that we didn't know is a potential problem for dogs with kidney injury. I contacted customer service and they provided us with a full refund the same day.We're transitioning instead to the Beef and Garden Veggies product, which is almost the same, but has slightly higher protein content without the Quercetin in it.This has been an extremely tough time for us over the past few weeks just trying to get our doggie stable and eating and feeling better. Dr. Harvey's made it that much easier for us to find a product that's healthy and safe for our girl. Thank you! It means a whole lot!

I ordered a trial sized package of the Healthy Weight to see how my dog handles this particular product.So far, so good.However I am a little unsure why the ingredients are almost pulverized?I presumed there would be more bulky pieces which would fill out after a certain amount of time, once the warm water was added, as instructed on the information package provided inside.Perhaps this particular line of the product is made for easier digestion for those dogs that are older, sick or having some specific issue.

Not sure why but neither of my dogs will eat this. They won’t even tolerate it mixed with other food

We purchased this as suggested from our veterinarian. He LOVES this food. I’ve never seen him this excited, and he loves to eat normally. He is loving every bite. So glad we found you!

As a beagle owner i needed to write this review. My dog is prune to allergies- one month on the food - everything is cleared up- the dog still LOVES it…. Reading this other review from this other beagle owner below made me kinda sad!!!! My dog is 30 pound fat - small dog and was already OBESED so the feeding advice on the box is saying i should give her 1 -1 1/4 cup a day.- I have a 1/4 cup per serving and this alone turns into so much food that she is not wanting more food when she has half of a cup a day……. I ordered my bag on the 4.of october and its still half full. When you be able to empty a bag in 1 week or a beagle is 50 pound and 20 pound more than my already obesed dog- there is nothing wrong with the food but the owner

Very easy to prepare, and my dog loves it. I put it in a “corrugated “ bowl that takes him longer to finish it all.

Our pup gobbles this up. Wished I could see the ingredients. Using as directed, but not helping his weight. Will keep trying. VERY EXPENSIVE. May go back to health product and use all lean meats and egg whites.

My dog has kidney issues and and there are times when he stops eating his K/D food and I’ll put down a bowl of this and his appetite returns. It’s like he gets bored with his choices of food so I have to add a bit of variety to his diet and I’m happy that this doesn’t interfere with his kidney functions. It causes him no kidney problems. And it’s good for his digestion. His bowl movements are better with this brand also.
