Is this a tram 1480 or tram 1481? the photo seems to show a tram 1480, but the item number in the description says 1481.
what connector do I need on the antenna end of my coax? Also, what diameter galvanized pipe do you suggest?
can this antenna be used for 11 meters too?
For grounding purposes: is the antenna connected to the metal stem below the ground plain? If so, will grounding that be sufficient for grounding.

Great antenna

I like the way it's ready to go out of the box, no adjustments needed. If it's properly sealed, properly installed, it should last awhile....

You will need to waterproof a the joints.

Great antenna.

I got this in 2017, unfortunately a storm recently took it down.I read reviews before I put it up, so seams & connectors were all sprayed with flex seal type sealer. The entire 2 meter/ 70cm band SWR was flat at 1.1/1.2 with only 1.6 in the 160s connected to my 150 watt fire department radio.Connected to a handheld 5 watt (for comparison) I could work 2 meter repeaters my 65 watt mobile couldn’t. I know how high the antenna is makes a big difference also. It’s a great antenna

Fantastic Antenna, for price and function.

I found this antenna after making many mistakes as a new Amateur Radio operator, buying inexpensive rg8, trying used 213 and LMR 400, buying Antennas with less gain, buying higher wattage radios. This allowed me to connect to repeaters 32- 70 miles away behind hills and mountains ⛰, allowed me to connect to my wires x node 25+ miles away in the mountains. DO NOT USE LESS THAN LMR-400 equivalent coax!!!! you bought this antenna for higher gain, don't lose it with higher loss cable your not saving any money by going with lesser. If your in a rural area with hills and mountains this is your ticket. I get full quieting on my FTM-100-DR, 8 watt Baofeng F8-HP and my FT-2DR at 5 watts yes I have my HT's plugged in them..... yes I like this antenna so much I bought 2. I can't compare to a Diamond or other brands but I can say this solved my problems after spending $800 trying to get reception on a Baofeng in a very rural mountainous area in Arizona. I was hoping for just 1 repeater I got 5!73 de K7AWW

Tram 1481 antenna quality has suffered -NOT WHAT IT WAS...

I had bought one a few years ago. This summer It took a lightening hit. After my insurance company settlement, I replaced the antenna this late fall. Before replacing I noted that the replacement antenna has space between the fiberglass and metal couplings. Like comments elsewhere about the antenna. I sprayed it with CLEAR FLEX-SEAL after assembly. I've attached pictures of the antenna after a Ice storm that left 1/4th of an inch of ice on the hood on my car which I park at the base of my tower. Also there is a picture of the coupling attached upper 2 sections. The lowest coupling failed. shearing at the threads. which were only 3-4 turns maybe 10tpi. You can also see where the fiberglass split causing the fiberglass to fall to the ground. only 30 feet away is a 1480 2 section antenna I use for my test bench which has survived 4-5 years. The day of the ice storm NWS reported icing, 30-32 degrees and 30 mph wind gusts. After the picture was taken with the broken coupling I found it would twist and pulled it off by hand. There was a layer of glue between the metal coupling and the fiberglass that was not bonded to either and I could chip it off with my finger nail. Final comment 1st antenna lasted 3+ years, newest one definitely poorer quality and lasted 3 months. During the 1st antenna's 3 year life it survived 3-4-5 ice storms and 65mph winds here in Kansas only to die by lightening. Replacement last Sunday is an antenna that ends in "9" heavier & stronger. Tram is not the quality of years gone by. I will not recommend it. However the 1480 2 section I will. as being shorter, it stresses joints less than the 3 section version.

Very nice antenna!

One of my ham friends bought one of these and he bragged on it....so I thought I'd take a look since I was in the market for a new antenna. I read alot of bad reviews and they all had to do with the poor sealing at the joints, letting moisture in. Well, nothing's perfect...and any ham operator worth his salt should know how to take care of that. When it's put together, just tape up the joints with silicone tape or whatever kind of waterproofing you like. I used the self-fusing silicone tape around both joints and around the bottom where the fiberglass shaft meets the base. Just keep the moisture out and there will be no problems. As far as performance, I couldn't be happier. It works just fine and I have better coverage than I had with the previous antenna. This antenna is a clone of the Comet GP-9 at half the price. One note to other hams. If you're not going to put the effort into making the antenna (the most important part of your station) work, you should get another hobby. We're ham operators, that's what we do. We take less than perfect and make it work....and make it work right. I give it four stars on ease of assembly. because of the poor joint seals. Enjoy!

Dedicated APRS Station

I purchased this antenna for my dedicated home station for my APRS station. My local fellow HAMS recommended this TRAM model. The antenna was easy to assemble and once installed yieled a nearly flat SWR profile across both the 2m and 70cm bands. My radio dedicated to APRS is on 7x24 and is seeing messages from stations much further away than I would have expected a 2m signal. I'm pleased with the ease of assembly and commissiong. I recommed this as a solution any dual band need of a fellow HAM radio operator.
