Love our waterfall/Great customer service from Web's Water Garden (supplier)
We had to replace our original pump for our pondless waterfall. The guy, Joe, at Web's Water Gardens was really helpful for us so kudos to them. This is the same brand/model (Aquascape 45010 Aqua Surge Pro 4000-8000 GPH) as our original pump (which guests at our home left running, ran it dry and burned it out--not the pumps fault...) We liked the original one so well we replaced with the same model the 2nd time around. It works well, has multiple settings of water speeds at the push of a button--so you can change the amount and speed of the water flow--which changes the sound it makes. Adjust to how you want it easily. We keep ours set at "3" out of 10 settings, each setting being stronger than the # below it. NOTE: The original pump kit we had came with a remote for on/off and water setting adjustments--this new one said and shows the remote on the package and in the text description but it is no longer included--you have to get the remote separately. They want you to use either your mobile device or the on/off setting buttons on the electrical box. The folks at Web's helped us get a new remote since we use that all the time. (our original remote had gotten tossed with the pump). We have a hot tub next to the waterfall so we're often wet when we turn on/off and don't want our phones around that, so if that's not a problem for you you might be OK with just the phone ap--but I'm not sure it works with 5G wireless, you might have to check on that). The pump operates very quietly. Instantly on. The top of our falls where the water comes out is about 6' off the ground (so maybe 7-8' +/- from the water storage vault under ground. This has plenty of power for that height. We added a water fill valve (aquascape part 88006) this time around, so that the water level will never go too low again.) We use our waterfall nearly every night all year round (were we live it's always warm). We love it! You can't go wrong with a water feature.

Long lasting
This is my second of these pumps. The pump is efficient and long lasting. Running 24/7/365 it lasted about 8 years. The variable speed is nice.

It's like having a dimmer switch for your water feature.
I am extremely happy with the purchase of my Aqua Surge PRO Pump. It truly is the Cadillac of pond pumps: Remote control access to turn pump on and off as well as controlling the speed or Gallons Per Hour (GPH). It's like having a dimmer switch for your water feature. Our primary reason for ultimately choosing this pump was the variable speed control. Even with helpful estimators from Aquascape, we were unsure which size pump we would need to accommodate two separate waterfalls totaling over 50 feet of falling water and 20 feet of vertical rise from the pump to the top of the highest fall. We have found that we like the sound of our waterfall most often at the lower speed, however, the higher more energetic settings have been utilized and appreciated while hosting parties. The remote control has also been an unexpected pleasure. It's nice to be able to change speeds on the fly, but our favorite feature is being able to turn it on and off from anywhere in our home or garden. In addition to the pump we also purchased AquaBlox, a Pondless Waterfall Vault, and Waterfall Spillway from Aquascape and are pleased with the professional/contractor grade quality of their products.

Very powerful pump
In the same size as an older version of this pump, this is much more powerful but equally low sound level. Our waterfall went from a modest trickle to a impressive display. I like the ability to adjust the flow rate too.Update: While the original one-speed Aquascape pump was very robust (12 years before it failed, in spite off occasional encounters with foreign matter), I have already had a pump/controller fail. I am not downgrading my rating as the vendor replaced the entire system. However, there does seem to be a design weakness in that with a simple one-speed pump, any overload will draw a bit more current and/or trip the circuit breaker. With the speed controller, the overload fries the controller. I would only use this pump in the future with additional filtration (filter bag over the pump). Unfortunately, in my application, any foreign matter gets sucked back into the outlet when the pump is turned off, and can still affect the smooth operation of the pump. Take appropriate precautions to avoid such problems.

Clogs way too easily and variable speed is not slow enough
I had high hopes for this pump. It replaced a Tsurumi 9PL that started leaking mineral oil into the water. The 9PL is a big energy hog, so I thought the Aquascape 45010 AquaSurge PRO 4000-8000 Pump would be a good replacement since it is supposedly more efficient and does not use mineral oil.Installation was super easy. The remote is cool, but the water flow at the lowest setting hardly seems like a change of water volume at all. There are times that I have guests outside, and the 9PL was too loud. I was really hoping for better control of the water, but this pump doesn't deliver; the water is still too loud. What's worse is that this pump clogs regularly and needs to be cleaned once a week. Aaaarrgghh! We have a lot of trees that drop organic matter every season and quite a bit of debris ends up in the skimmer basket. The clogging is going to be just awesome in the winter. Even though I have full length rubber gloves, doing a thorough cleaning means having to feel around for the debris, something that will be very difficult with the gloves on.Someone suggested putting the pump in a bucket so that the debris at the bottom of the skimmer basket doesn't get sucked into the pump guard. I'm going to try this but may resort to using a step drill bit to put some large holes in the pump guard.Quite disappointed with this pump.
