Awesome beginner to intermediate guitar!

I LOVE this thing. Bought it as a lay-around guitar that I expected to not care about. It’s been over a year now and I keep it on a stand ready to go to strum on whenever I get an itch. I did replace the strings with a D’Addario set right off the bat, but that was my only “upgrade” to her. This and oil the fret boards with some decent oil when you do. She needs it and it makes her pop a little more. Guitar is gorgeous in this black. Admittedly at first I wasn’t a fan of the “off white” or ivory-ish tan-like color of the switch housing, but it’s growing on me as it doesn’t stick out like a sore thumb as if it were pure white and doesn’t look so basic b***ch murdered out in all black, either. Look, it’s NOT a high price guitar so don’t expect things that you would from an expensive guitar. Like the pickups aren’t going to wow anyone anytime soon and are a little noisy….. ok, pretty noisy. The bridge feels a bit flimsy but after a year of regular play hasn’t shown any signs of giving up. Frets are surprisingly decent for this price point. Not super smooth like you find on a Solar or ESP but also not sharp or snaggy enough to rip a latex glove on. The most valuable thing about this girl is it gives room to grow and you can upgrade it SO easily. Tuners do their job. Don’t have to tune her as much as other, more expensive guitars that I’ve owned. Another extremely simple upgrade and a fairly inexpensive one if you shop around. My point being this girl has GREAT solid bones to work with AND looks pretty good for what you pay for. If you want to learn guitar, or want to get it as a gift for someone who does it’s a GREAT starter that leaves room to grow with the player and will keep them from having to take a 2nd mortgage or sell an organ for a fancy snobby name on the headstock for a good long time. I love this thing. Will definitely buy another Donner guitar in the near future!

Simple and awesome

The finish is flawless and gorgeous. The shape (flat face) and weight are so comfortable. The thinner-C neck is fast and smooth. I like the pickups, as they have a warmth and punch that provide nice tones, if you play more clean than distorted. However, it does handle distortion quite well, just not really a chugging machine. I play classic rock and pop, and this little axe is perfect for my application. Not exactly a Les Paul, but an attractive instrument with its own tone. Great bang for the buck. Would make a perfect backup axe at a gig. I wouldn't pigeon-hole this as a beginner's guitar.

Get the feel for an appropriate length neck and size before purchasing any guitar

I tinkered around with playing guitar years ago in college (with my roommates Gretsch) years ago. I'm by no means any good and hot this as a beginner guitar go myself and son. It's most likely just my experience and fault for not physically testing it, but the neck was shorter than expected and therefore the frets are also closer than I thought they would be.But, it's a great looking guitar, sounds decent and I still suspect with routine practice it'll sound even better.

Don't miss out on this one!

Take it from an over 70 year old guitar fanatic, who has experienced just about every make and style of guitar on the planet. You will not believe the beauty in craftsmanship in this inexpensive gem. You know what I had to do to this guitar to set it to perfection? Lower the bridge about 1/8th of an inch. That's it. There isn't a style I can't crank out on this ax. I can easily compare this to any other solid body electric I've ever owned. True story!

1 Out Of 5 Is Bad, I Got A Bad One

Very Poor Quality Control. The SunBurst Finish Guitar Was On Sale, So I Pulled The Trigger After Seeing Glowing Reviews.I Couldn't Wait To Have A Guitar To Start Recording With!So Upon Arrival, I Eagerly Pulled It From The Box.It Looked Amazing, So I Tried Tuning It Only To Find The Worst Fret Buzz I Have Ever Experienced FromAny Guitar I Have Ever Played In 45 Years.I Got The Truss Set And The Neck Had The Proper Relief. Still Buzzing! So I Adjusted The Bridge, Still Buzzing, So I Repeated The Process Over Again Until They Were At Their Highest Setting. It Came With The Low E Side Of The The Bridge So High The Screw For The Bridge Was Just Setting On Top Of The Threaded Insert.Checking The Nut, The Low E And A Positions Were Cut Way Too Low.I Gave The Neck Some More Relief Until I Felt Like The Truss Rod Might Break and Still Buzzing. At This Point I Took It To The Local Shop To See What Was Going On, Then Came The Bad News....Who Ever Put The Radius In The Fret Board, Leaned Into It A Little Too Much In The First Second and Third Fret Positions On The High E And B .The Only Way To Fix It Is To , Replace The FretBoard Or Replace The Neck And Give It A New Nut With Proper Groove Depths. Then Was Told The Neck Seemed To Have A Hairline Crack As There Was Excessive Vibrations Up Around the Nut.Seeing Other Reviews Which Showed Up After I Bought It, Looks Like One In Five Had Problems, Mostly With The Necks! (Check Other Reviews)Needless To Say, It's A Gamble And I Drew The DEAD Man's Hand. (Booo!....)

Umm.....,UPDATE

Out of the box, it looks good. The finish in good as well as the knobs, tuners and bridge. Donner, however, didn't do much quality control as far as function goes. I haven't even checked the intonation, fret levels as the neck needs a whole lot of adjustment and the frets ends will rip the skin off your fingers. I imagine the pickups are adequate. I am confident I will dial it in as the materials feel good. It was on major sale so with a lot of work and modest mods(nut, pickups, tuners-they actually feel pretty good) it will be a quality player. For a beginner, especially with no setup experience, I don't think this guitar, for the condition this particular guitar came in, would be a good choice. Update: Donner actually replied to me regarding my review. I told them I am actually returning their guitar as it needs just way more work than I want to put into it. I have not heard back as I just sent a message to them. We will see how it turns out.
