A must have for Common Core Transition!
Marzano at his best! This book is a must have for Common Core Transition! It's great for Parents and Educators, and really gets into the nuts and bolts of critical thinking and increasing rigor.

Classroom Strategies
The skills that children need to succeed may be less memorization of dates and more connection to each other, finding out for themselves and the ability to think.

Tactics, Not Strategies, and Disappointing about Assessment
I admire Marzano's work greatly, and this book offers some good value in its opening sections, defining 21st century skills very thoroughly and giving valuable research background on both the why and the what for these skills. I appreciate the inclusion of the "conative" (sic) skills, and learned from this book that new word, "conative." (as a complement to "cognitive.")But the teaching suggestions are, mostly, disappointingly short. The are moments in a lesson, or very narrow units; they are not comprehensive "strategies."What is worse is that though the title suggests that teaching and assessing will be treated equally, assessment gets very short shrift here: really, for the most part, just a set of bland, generic, worksheet rubrics.Although there are some useful nuggets here, and I list them in my full review, on the whole this is a disappointment. To find my full review, search "Teaching Assessing 21st century skills 21k12"

Three Stars
A little too academic for a classroom teacher but good if you need a college text.
