Extremely powerful!
Surprisingly powerful for a battery operated device. Will easily cut through 1/2” branches. Bought mainly to trim arborvitae to about 8 feet. Works great for this purpose. Have 3 hedges and was quickly able to trim. The device is somewhat heavy which is understandable considering the power it produces. I just take breaks in between cuttings. Comes with a 4 ah XR Dewalt battery and charger. Will last for about 1 hour of continuous cutting. Battery has guage showing remaining power level which is a nice feature. You can buy a lighter brand but I don’t know if it would compare to the power of the Dewalt. This is strictly a pole hedger. Would be nice if it converted to a hand model but it doesn’t. Would also be nice if an extension pole was available to extend to higher heights but I can’t find one.The pole with hedger at a 90 degree angle stands 4 feet in height. Add 32” to length with hedger at 180 degrees. Will comfortably reach the top of a 9-10’ hedge. Anything higher is a reach.

Great choice
As others pointed out, this is not 12 ft long, and that's probably a good thing. It's close to 7' tip to tip. The ad is also not very clear because the length is fixed, not "extendable". Fully extended height depends on how tall you are and how high you can lift it.This tool replaced my Craftsman gas trimmer. It is lighter and easier to handle and I can reach higher and deeper than I could before. It also cuts thicker branches and the battery lasts longer than I do. I looked at many online and I think this is a solid choice. Besides the high quality of the DeWalt brand, some features to compare with others are 22" cutting blades, 1" max branch diameter, and 4 AH battery. I haven't found others that can match these specs. Unless you really want to buy something cheaper, you can't go wrong with this.

Updated: Seems to be a Black and Decker Designed product sold under the Dewalt name.
Update: Raising the rating to 4 stars. I really like this tool. Still concerned with its durability but so far so good. Does the job well that it was designed for.I needed a pole hedge trimmer and was going to buy a Stihl electric one since all of my other power equipment is Stihl and it is awesome equipment because it is so rugged and reliable. However, when I saw this trimmer and saw that it used the same battery pack as my Dewalt Power tools, I decided to minimize having different batteries and chargers and get the Dewalt one. This trimmer has some really nice features. It has a good run time using the supplied 4 amp hour battery. The adjustable angle hedger is a really nice feature. Overall first time I used it I was pleased with its performance. It worked really well for light hedging. Does not have the power for heavy duty cutting of larger branches. I am concerned with its long term durability. The angle adjustment device is plastic, and I am concerned with its long term durability because it is loose and just feels flimsy. Overall, this trimmer feels like something Black and Decker would design and does not appear to be nearly as rugged as Dewalt equipment used to be. I also found the safety switch on the trigger to be completely annoying and totally unnecessary and broke it off. Even though the owners manual did not mention it (that I could find) but you should spray hedger blades with WD 40 before you use them each time. This hedger could have been made twice as powerful if they would have designed it to use two 20Volt batteries in series for a 40 Volt system instead of a 20 Volt system.

Works great!
This is exactly what I was looking for. It works great, and please be aware, the top has some weight to it, but it is clearly manageable. I thought that it had some sort of telescoping pole, but it does not. It is just one solid pole, so it can only go as high as you can reach standing with the straight pole, but that works for me as I can now do a lot more trimming without a ladder. I have not yet tested the length of the battery life, as I have only done trimming for 30-40 min and it worked great. Highly recommend this product.

Great equipment!
I had read that this was heavy. It is a little heavy and a little awkward but once I started using it I forgot. Save me a ton of time on large shrubs. I needed this 25 years ago!

Works very well and easy to handle
The tool is easy to use, cuts great and had battery duration that lasted thru my entire cutting process. I also like the muti positions of the cutting head. Highly recommend!

Cracked Elbow Joint
I purchased this trimmer in Nov of 2023. I loved the concept of a (up to) 90 degree elbow joint for easier, square hedging. The unit has a simple, cogged elbow joint which allows you to set the cutting angle to multiple angles (up to 90 degrees) and locks into place with a screwed ring.Out of the box, I thought the joint, even when locked tightly, was a bit loose. I used the trimmer at most 6 times, mostly at 90 degrees, and only in my yard (no heavy duty commercial use). Each time I used it, it seemed the elbow joint had more and more give to it. Eventually, the joint would not lock, and I realized the plastic casing around the joint had cracked, so that the joint was now unlockable and therefore unusable. I had to duct tape the joint in the 180 degree position just to finish the job.I have contacted the seller and have yet to hear back from them, but I fully expect the usual run around that I am on my own, wasted my money, buyer beware.Regardless of how the seller stands by the product, I can say already as a DeWalt user, it is a disappointing product out of the box, poorly designed, and too lightly manufactured. A great idea, but once again the Marketing and Finance guys overruled the Engineers.
