Q: How is the chain speed? Other battery saws I've tried have a slow chain speed, not like a gas saw.

The chain saw cuts well. It is not for someone cutting trees professionally or showing off. It is a chainsaw that just works and always always starts when you want it. No storing gas, no replacing the plug, no maintenance, for those as like that sort of thing. If you need high speed because you are in a great hurry, work on a lumber camp near Hudson's Bay, and drive a big pickup because it gets to your destination better than a small pickup does, by all means buy a gas saw. If you have 45 minutes of cutting to do now and then, this can be the better option.

Q: Is the 2.0 ah battery sufficient; or should i spring for the 2.5?

I have the 2.0 ah and a 7.5 ah from my eGo lawnmower. I would keep with the 2.0ah,,,, unless you are operating away from 120vac power where you can readily recharge the battery. I get between 45 minutes to 1 hour on a charge BUT > I vacuum the air intake screen on my battery after EVERY use to ensure the cooling vents are not blocked and place the depleted battery on the small charger immediately after it has been discharged to ensure long lithium ion battery life. I also vacuum all the grit/oily sawdust away from the the saw chain drive sprocket to reduce drag and chain wear. ALWAYS ensure the chain lubricant reservoir if full before each use. If you don't have chainsaw bar oil, use 30 weight engine oil (new) as a supplement. These chains move at 45 mph in a linear motion which creates a situation for a lot of friction if not properly lubricated,,, reducing chain life and battery reserve.

Q: Can you use the battery from the Ego cordless lawnmower with this chainsaw)

Yes, all of the EGO batteries will work with it. I have used the 2.5, the 5.0 and the 7.5ah batteries, all work great. The bigger batteries are heavier, but I have not had any problem, the weight is still balanced well. I have also used the backpack adapter with the chainsaw, which lets you carry the battery on your back, and decreases arm fatigue.

Q: Would this be a good detailing saw for chainsaw carving purposes? Sounds like a little on the heavy side.

We've seen quite a few chainsaw carvings done with this chainsaw. We don't think you'll be disappointed with this tool.
