Bravo to the author!
This is a wonderful coffee table book about a catastrophic event in world history and the important role America's women and children played by picking up a knitting needle. Well researched and reader friendly, the book is filled with rarely seen photos and little known facts, not only about the knitting brigades of WW1, but also about a defining time in America. The Knitting Brigades of WW1 would be a great gift for history and knitting buffs, or anyone who enjoys learning.

Interesting story of socks and the war
I bought this for my wife who is an avid user of old circular knitting machines, also known as sock machines, and she was thrilled to learn more of the history of these machines and how socks were supplied to the soldiers in the trenches during World War Two. I found it very interesting also, I'm always interested in little tidbits of historic information.Recommended to anyone interested in the old (or new replicas) circular knitting machines.

Interesting bits of information
Light read and good insight into an amazing war effort on machines that are still being used a century later. The circular sock machine. They are wonderful pieces that hold such history. Interesting bits of information on the circular sock machines and the part they played in our history.

Camaraderie of Yesteryear
This is a well-researched and inspired look back to a time in America when citizens were united and purposeful. It is a well-written quick read and a wonderful conversation piece. The photos add tremendously to the impact of a short-lived tradition. I enjoyed the book immensely!

Great history
I love knitting and I love history. This is a great combination of the two. I had no idea the country, even school aged children, were asked to help cloth the soldiers in WWI.

Fascinating Little-Known History
This is a fun little book about how "just-plain-folks" can make major differences in the world. A great object lesson that's enjoyable to read. Great photos too!

Don't miss out on this book!
You don't even need to be a knitter to appreciate the history, research and photographs in this book, but if you are a knitter, you will gobble it up. Fabulous book!!! I gave 6 copies of this book as Christmas gifts and each recipient has felt the same way. The author did an incredible job! It's even a good story to tell kids.

Insightful, Educational and Inspiring
I have the distinct pleasure of personally knowing Holly and had every confidence her book would be insightful, educational and inspiring. It exceeded my expectations! So much so that I asked her to make a presentation to our group of civic volunteers to enlighten them as to just how much power each of us hold in our hands. Her presentation empowered me as much as reading this wonderful book! I strongly recommend this book to anyone involved in volunteering on any level. It gave me personal reassurance that anything is possible when we all work together toward a common goal. Kudos to Holly for creating this vehicle to drive home this important truth!
