I like it!
This is a nice grandfather clock! It keeps perfect time and it was easy to set up. Now that's saying something because I'm not usually somebody that is good at assembling things out of a package. You will need both a Philips head and a flathead screwdriver to complete the assembly. I like the way it looks at the edge of my dining room and it really livens up the entire room quite a bit! Please know that this product takes both AA batteries as well as C batteries. The clock mechanism and the chimes use the AA batteries and the pendulum uses the C batteries. I do agree with other reviews on this site when they state that the chimes are kind of cheesy. If you're looking for a clock with really classy Westminster chimes then this particular product is probably not for you but other than that I think it was a great buy for the price!

Two of these were damaged in shipping, then company said it was our fault!
The clock is nice for the money. For less than $400 you are getting an all wood clock with an electric quartz mechanism and a quality clock face. Unfortunately, our first clock arrived with a big crushed spot on the top of the clock, and the replacement arrived with a big crushed spot on its side. The cardboard(!) box is very thin with only about 2” of styrofoam along the edges. After the second damaged clock delivery the company said they did not want to replace the clock anymore and said it was our fault that the clock arrived damaged—so no more replacements. We got Amazon to intervene so we did get a refund, but I would caution others about ordering anything fragile from this company.

I've grown very fond of it.
First, let's get this out of the way: The box says "cherry," and the clock is exactly the same color as the mahogany table next to it. I like the color just fine, but someone should replace (or at least Photoshop) that picture.Speaking of the box, I don't think I've ever seen anything packed better than this. The box is padded and reinforced to a fare-thee-well. I was so impressed by the box that, months later, I haven't been able to throw it away.As you probably know by now, the clock has to be assembled. This took one man about twenty minutes. Piece of cake. The pendulum and "weights" are purely decorative, but they are made of light-weight (brass-plated?) metal and look surprisingly good. The so-light weights had a tendency to sway any time someone walked by, but I found that I was able to dismantle them and fill them with pennies. Instant stability. The chimes (sounding on the hour) are a little funky, but they don't sound so much electronic as slightly-out-of-tune-real. There's a volume control, and I suggest turning it down for maximum comfort and verisimilitude. For what it is (inexpensive wood solids and veneers), the cabinetry is surprisingly uniform and well-done, as is the finish. I could find no flaws at all, which amazed me.As others have said, this is no $10,000 clock (although it does look an awful lot like Howard Miller's very expensive "La Rochelle"; Google it and see). You could probably carry it under one arm in a pinch (okay, if you're Gaston). And the design of the clock face is a little underwhelming. But as a whole it's handsome and charming, and - btw - it keeps perfect time.

Beautifully crafted clock
This was a gift from my husband and myself to our Mom, she loved this clock and sits and admires it, and states it keeps perfect time.I was told from my hubby that his mom always wanted a grandfather clock, and I thought to myself we all want something really bad so why not makeher life more happier with what she always wanted and we purchased this for her Christmas gift this past Christmas and she so loves it, shows it offto everyone that stops by for a visit.I love amazon and have been shopping for the past 13 years with you and please don't ever go offline, you all are fantastic you have everything a persondesires and needs in life and I love shopping with you, and also recommended you to my immediate family which they all buy from you as well, keep up your good work.People If you know of someone special this is the perfect gift for them, it's workmanship is beautifully made, and its simple to put together, the chimes sound nice you can raise the volume to your liking we are proud to own a clock like this and again I want to thank amazon for having everything I ever need to buy out there for me.Thank you,Denise W.

Poor or non existant quality control
In my opinion:Pros:*Packaging to protect item was excellent. (That's where the quality stopped.)*overall look is good*Assembly was straight forward and simple.Cons:*Back panel laminate was bubbled*Top hinge on door was bent (was probably bent in an attempt to align top of door)*Top of door not aligned/ascew and not even to bottom of clock assembly*Pedulum wiil not continue to swing as assembly is not mounted straight up/down*Right pendulum stop was broken (again probaly in an attempt to keep pendulum working)*following included instruction emailed problems to company who never responded.Decided to keep clock as it was a Christmas present. Being handy I was able to repair most of the issues. I would not recommend this item as it appears quality control is non existant.

Know How to set this Clock
I love this clock. It is a perfect size for my new condo. I was relieved to see there was no visible red in the finish. It has lovely details to the case and is heavy enough to be sturdy though I did secure it to the wall and put a small but heavy cement planter ( with a lovely plant) in front of the base for extra weight.

clock quality
Purchased for use in a great room. Love the auto shut off for night, and volume control. very nice looking clock for the price. penduleum is very cheap and noisy, use tape to secure and you'll be fine. I wouldn't pay the advertised price of excess of $700.00, but for less than $200 its fine. If, you want a very good sound and good look, this is great.
