This is a MUST READ if you are struggling with these clippers

I’ll start off by saying I have a 60 pound goldendoodle with a thick, curly coat. The last clipper I bought for her stopped holding a charge in less than a year so I was back looking for a solution to help keep her coat trim. The reviews on this one were good so I decided to go with it. It went better than the last one I had but based on the reviews I thought it was going to go better. Now this is the first dog I’ve ever attempted to groom so calling me a newbie is an understatement. I have no idea what I’m doing. I didn’t bathe her first (I’ve heard tips that I probably should), her coat is VERY thick and curly ( which I cannot change), and she’s a big dog which takes awhile to complete the project. Her coat was probably a touch long and overgrown, which was on me.Next time I’m going to try to bathe her first. The clipper did get stuck and clogged with hair on a regular basis, but again, that might have been on me for not proper conditions. One thing not on me though is that the clippers get very hot. The cord is somewhat a pain, but I also wanted a corded clipper because the last rechargeable device (different brand) died so fast.If Amazon allows me to update this review after the initial post, I’ll update it once I do use it a few times.Update: the clipper seemed to work the best the first time I used it. This is my third time using it, but the second time wasn’t wonderful however it doesn’t even appear it’s cutting the hair anymore. I’ve gone through all the paperwork that came with it to see what’s wrong with it, but the only possibly help I found was lubricating oil and grease. I went online to see if I need to clean it better (I clean it every time I’ve used it by removing hair and lightly wiping the unit down) but maybe there’s more to it. Nope, couldn’t find anything. I went to YouTube to find some videos for help or ideas, which I found how to lubricate the blades, so I did that. Still no difference. I’ve been trying to cut this dogs hair for 30-45 minutes and to me it looks fuzzy like the combing combing through the hair, but it’s not cutting anything off. (If you see any hair on the clippers in the picture or video it’s because I was trying to give her a haircut but got frustrated enough to come here and update my review). My son got home and asked where I started on her haircut if that gives you an idea how much these clippers don’t cut after 30-45 minutes. I’ve watched other people using these clippers with very good results and not much of a fight, so I really don’t understand what’s going on with mine. Maybe I got a bad one, I don’t know. I am very not happy with these clippers. I haven’t decided if I’m going to give up entirely now or try another brand. What a waste.Final update: Luckily I don’t give up easily. I’ve tried the clippers now 3 other times and none of the times has my experience been what I was hoping it was going to be. They were not even close to cutting and then I had a light bulb moment to try another blade. The clipper comes with a #10 blade, which is really short. After watching other people clip a goldendoodle, I settled on purchasing a #5 blade (from another seller on Amazon). This was the blade I’ve been using all 3 times. So, light bulb, try the blade that came with it (also a duh moment) and voila …. The clippers went through her hair like butter just like the rest of the reviewers and people on other videos said. So now that I tried this #10 blade and it worked so good, I had to finish the job so my goldendoodle has a buzz cut, but luckily it’s been a hot summer so she probably likes it.Anybody that is having a struggle with these clippers, switch the blade out and I’ll bet it’ll work like a charm. No more buying blades that don’t work from random places for me (and you shouldn’t either)! (The only reason I am struggling in the video is because I’m right handed and also trying to hold my phone while using the clippers left handed and also trying to settle my dog. Lol). This is a long post but I thought it was only fair to update the review and hope this helps someone that had the same problem as me.

$150 pays for itself in time and repeat purchases of lower quality clippers

TL;DR: spend the $150 and maybe get a longer blade for cold weatherI finally, after nine years, bought these to groom our 80# Goldendoodle and completed the project in about 30 minutes. It was shocking how easy these made the process; I'd been using the "pet" Wahl clippers (you know the ones -- the same clippers they make for people but with a different color box and a pet sticker on them) and taking almost two hours to clip and re-clip and re-clip the same area trying to get hair to actually get cut.I'm on my third set and as my frustration was mounting to new heights during the dog's last trim (in an hour, I only completed most of his legs before the clippers were too hot to hold and my rage had forced me to stop). The only way the old clippers would cut was if I pulled the fur taught, and then trimmed that handful. I was the human Flowbie (yes the fur was clean -- bath the previous day).I'd seen previous comments across all types of clippers speaking to them not working or getting too hot and all sorts of issues; my biggest concern was the super-wavy hair that the other clippers just couldn't seem to touch. The hair would glide over the blades and even stop the blades of the old clippers. I've wasted more money on lesser things in the past so figured worst-case scenario I could donate these to our SPCA if they totally sucked -- I bought the 4f size blade in addition to the #10 that comes with this (it's cold out; don't need a frozen dog) and it was like shearing a sheep. One pass and done. Piles of Goldendoodle hair on the floor, no rage, no wasted time.Make sure that the fur is clean, make sure you add a drop or two of oil to the blades before you used them, and make sure to clean the blades when you're done. I've never used the hot-swapable blades before so was worried about them getting hot, per other comments. No issues; never got past warm (kept checking) after 30 minutes. The clippers aren't heavy or difficult to hold; if you can hold a bottle of beer you will probably be able to manage these w/o an issue. The blades are not magic. If you have matted fur or giant clumps, those should be cut out first or use a smaller blade to shave them out. With the ease that these made grooming our dog, I expect to be able to more easily stay on top of keeping his fur at a manageable length which will also probably make this easier as a maintenance project rather than an actual shearing, which is what had typically happened due to it being such a god-awful chore.

Works great, just read before you buy

These clippers work great. I have a little curly maltipoo whose hair is absolutely untamable. After giving him a bath, letting the hair dry, then brushing it, these clippers cut through it like butter. There are a lot of reviews on here saying the clippers won’t cut their dog’s hair. There is a reason for that. You haven’t read the instructions. The product vividly illustrates the purpose of each blade that is available for these clippers. You can clearly see they come with a 40, and that blade is meant solely for ears.Blades for the body are a 3 or 4. You have to buy those separately. To know this you would have had to looked at all the product pictures before purchasing. So it’s not Oster’s fault your clippers didn’t work. It’s the effort of the user to do their do dilligence and research.Five stars. Great clippers. They do get hot, but only when you’re using the wrong blade or your hand covers the vent.
