The Oxford Book of Prayer (Oxford Books of Prose & Verse)

Oxford Book of Prayer
A very useful collection of prayers. As a minister I have used it for years to undergird my extemporaneous prayers. I have also loaned the book to church members a as way to discover their own prayer 'styles'. This "Oxford Book of Prayer" is so useful that when I went back to work as a minister after downsizing into retirement, I had to buy a replacement for my original copy.

Not An Easy Tool for Some Users
This book is not well organized by topical prayers. I had hoped to go to the index and find prayers arranged by a myriad of subjects. For example, prayers of thanksgiving...not there; prayers of praise...not there. If you want a sample of prayers from the world's major religions or prayers from historical figures known and unknown this is your book. I'm sure serious students of theology or the ordained are familiar with this book and find it of value, but for the lay person searching for a simple prayer for devotions it is not very practical.

Good Collection
I frequently take the Intercession slot in Church and am constantly on the look-out for new prayers. This book fulfilled my needs excellently.

Dip into Prayer
Good standard collection of prayers. A welcome element is the relative brevity when compared to more contemporary collections! Especially like the selection from faith traditions other than Christianity. A good source book for personal adaptation, with a helpful index. Likely to be appealing to the more traditional worshipper.
