Everything you want it to be

Just came in the mail today- if this watch performs like I expect it to, it will be my new favorite AND edc. This piece packs a punch for the price. What’s more to want? Date, eco-drive, chrono, MT, water-resistance, performance, looks, and fit.I have small wrists and this 7.5” band is for me. It wraps just under 3/4 of my wrist with a double band to pick up the slack.Because I have smaller wrists, the 39mm face accompanied by the buttons still sits like a 41mm would. Although this watch may not be for the bigger wearer, it fits me perfectly at 5’10 160lb.It came out of the box without battery life but it charged up to the 1 sec function within an hour of direct sunlight. The illuminated hands (and smaller 5 min spots) glow brightly enough to impress me.The 24 hr dial and cooly-tilted date window are my favorite face features. The numbers are big and white so this watch is super readable. If you’re counting seconds you may have to improvise from 55-60- if the bigger chrono second-hand is set to 0. They’ve made the large red hand for chrono use only and the constant second- dial is at the bottom of the face, thus making seconds 55-60 virtually unseeable. But for me, this won’t matter except for settting the time. The leather-lined canvas strap is definitely a bit stiff out of the box. I’m currently breaking it in on a tight setting but am hopeful that with a little wear & water (it’s resistant up to 100m), it will break in and shape nicely to me. The unusual 21mm strap does help beef up the overall appearance, although good luck searching for an off-model substitution at that size. There didn’t seem to be too many of this design in this size. The chronograph works and resets super professionally up to one hour. Any longer and it will zero out automatically. Not a down fall for me. The hands are set to true locations but If yours doesn’t- there’s a calibration feature that’s manually adjustable.I’m going to pay attention to the buttons and if they get pressed accidentally but so far (about 3 hours in) I’ve yet to press anything by accident or catch the buttons on anything. (This includes a change of outfits)Overall: I expect this watch to keep comfortably close time; I expect it to be appropriate for anything from golf to dinner and anything in between; I expect it will break in nicely to me personally, I expect it will perform like it’s supposed to and, if not, I expect the Citizen to stand honorably behind their product.I expect this will be my new go-to daily piece and I expect it will continue to grow on me.I will follow up this post only if my expectations aren’t met. If not, then this watch is worth every penny for a mid-range investment in my opinion.Grab one and enjoy!Best!4/17/22Update: The strap is tough and stiff. If it doesn’t fit you perfectly I suggest you try setting it on the looser fit and adding water. I’ve bent the strap around quite a bit and have set it loose then soaked the strap. I expect it will rest well here until fully broken in and maybe then I’ll tighten it again. Until then, this worked. Here we are a year later and this is definitely my most favorite watch.Performance is impeccable and I wear it with more outfits than I probably should. The only thing that changes is that I soaked the band in fabric softener over night back when I got it, then ran it through the wash. The leather inside held up- the canvas held up, and the band has relaxed down to a perfect fit on my wrist at the center hole. (One off from the pics)All said & done: this watch has been snorkeling in key west, worn to dinner, and everything in between. Love it.

I must agree with the other reviewers here at Amazon: this is a nice watch and a good value for the money.I must confess as well that this watch does give me "charge anxiety." I live in a dark first-floor studio in Manhattan without much direct sunlight.I have been placing this watch under a table lamp with a compact fluorescent bulb for two hours or so before I go to bed and another two hours or so in the morning. In addition, I leave the watch on a windowsill, where I get a half an hour of direct sunlight around lunchtime. And when the sun is out, I have been wearing it while I get about a half-hour of sun in the park a day.So far, the watch has been running fine. When it is losing its charge, the second hand in the little dial at the six o'clock position jumps in two-second increments to warn you to charge the watch. This happened only on the first day I received the watch, after having charged it for two hours in a small dressing room lit by a CF bulb on the ceiling.Still, Citizen reminds you that if you wear long sleeves, that will prevent the watch from charging while you wear it.So I'm wondering how this watch will run in the dead of winter, when I won't be sunning in the park and I might be wearing long-sleeved sweaters or coats. We will see...In the meantime, I can tell you that the watch looks better in person than in the photo on this page. The stainless steel body has a brushed finish around the sides with a polished ring around the crystal. The luminescence of the hands is very bright, and it is very easy to read the time in all lighting conditions.I have not found the watch strap to be as short as others have reported; it seems to be about the same length as the straps on my other watches. The grommets around the strap holes make the watch very easy to strap on.Because this is a quartz watch, it keeps perfect time, of course, and the chronometer movement -- which records seconds and minutes up to one hour -- works well. Finally the watch is rated as water-resistant to 10 BAR, which the instructions say make it suitable for wearing while swimming or snorkeling, but not deep-sea diving.About the only thing negative I can report is that the plastic film on the back of the watch was rather difficult to remove and left some gluey gunk, which I had to remove with paint thinner. Usually I find that these protective films are affixed these days with a static charge rather than glue.Nevertheless, this is a handsome and functional watch, very reasonably priced. Wrists up!PROS:* Very easy to read.* Quartz movement keeps perfect time.* No batteries to replace!* Charges on any kind of light, indoors or out.* Better-looking in person.CONS:* Charging ability in winter uncertain.* Hard to remove plastic film on watch back.
