Joy-Con Comfort Grip for Nintendo Switch - Black

I have been a Switch owner since launch, and while I love the versatility of the Joy-Cons, the standard plastic grip that comes with the console always felt a bit slippery and narrow during long gaming sessions. I picked up this Comfort Grip hoping to reduce hand cramping during longer playthroughs.I’ve been testing this grip for about two weeks now, mostly playing The Legend of Zelda and Mario Kart 8 for sessions ranging from 30 minutes to three hours.Performance and ExperienceThe biggest difference you notice immediately is the rubberized back. The standard grip is hard plastic, but this one has a soft-touch rubber coating on the handles. It makes a huge difference in terms of grip security; my hands didn't get sweaty or slip around nearly as much as they do with the original.The width feels slightly different—it fills the palm a bit better. The slide-in mechanism is smooth; the Joy-Cons click in satisfyingly and feel very secure. I also confirmed that the player indicator lights on the Joy-Cons are clearly visible through the front panel, just like the official description claims. One nice little design touch I noticed is that because of the wider base, this grip actually stands up on its own on a coffee table, which looks quite tidy next to the dock.Pros• Ergonomics: The rubber grips are significantly more comfortable than hard plastic.• Stability: The Joy-Cons lock in tight with no wobble.• Design: It stands upright on flat surfaces, which is a nice aesthetic touch.Cons• Non-Charging: It’s important to note that this is a passive grip; it does not charge your Joy-Cons while you play. You still have to dock them to charge.• Size: If you have very small hands, the slightly bulkier handles might take a moment to get used to compared to the stock grip.VerdictIf you play your Switch in "TV mode" often and find your hands getting tired holding the standard plastic controller, this is a worthy upgrade. It doesn't change the functionality, but the rubberized texture makes it much nicer to hold for extended periods.

So far so good.Brought this as my son’s Switch only came with the one set of controllers, and his 6 year old sister was desperate to play with him. However, they struggle to play with the smaller single sides, so I brought this set along with the controller holder and they’re having a great time. Obviously, my 6 year old doesn’t really have it down if his to use it fully yet but everything appears to work well. May even buy two more sets so me and hubby can race them on Mario 😉

Sturdy material and perfect fit for joy-con controllers. Worth the price.

After much deliberation, as ideally I'd have liked the same grip as came with the Switch, I decided to go with this one. I'm pleased to say that I am very happy with it. The rubbery handles make the unit feel more secure to hold. Apart from that the only real difference is that the cut-out for the button you press to release the joy-con is very slightly smaller, making it a tiny bit more awkward to press.Only reservation I have is that the runners where you slide the joy-cons into it are made of plastic so wonder if they may wear quicker over time. At the moment they slide in very smoothly so I don't think it'll be an issue.I plumped for the black unit, simply because for some reason it's cheaper! Would have been nice to have a red one but what's the point?
