Great backpack. Size is perfect for a 5 year old. Durable except if you wash it in the washing machine the face can peel/chip.

I bought this for my 6yo. He's super into Pokémon and Pikachu is his favorite. This set was perfect.His school requires him to bring a water bottle, so we kept it in the mesh pocket on the outside of the bag. He's in Kindergarten and almost never has anything in his backpack. When he does, it papers, a small library book, or his coat. Nothing big, bulky, or heavy. Unfortunately, the water bottle cracked and become completely unusable. He'd only been using it for maybe two weeks.Similarly, I only hand washed the bottle because we don't have a dishwasher (so I couldn't run it through the machine even if I wanted to), and the design on the bottle rubbed off effortlessly! I use natural, gentle soap and didn't scrub it with any tool (re: sponge, brush).The material of the bag and pencil pouch is super thin. This is not a backpack that would last long with middle school binders and such. There are no additional pockets on the inside; what you see is what you get. There's also no tag or insert on the inside to add your child's name, classroom, and phone number to in the event it gets left behind at school or on the bus.We haven't used the lunch box because he eats the school's lunches, but I'm saving it for when we have family outings. I had to run it through the washer/dryer because of a pet mess and it held up well with no damage.
