How long does this take to cook 3 uncooked cups of rice?
hi, did this set also have rice paddle and small cup inside? thank you
The product description says you start with 1 - 3 cups of (uncooked) rice. Can one start with half a cup of uncooked rice?
Can the steamer tray be used on it's own without also making rice?

Great little rice cooker!!!

I'm loving this tiny little rice cooker! I used to have a microwave cooker and it was pretty inconsistant when it cooked the rice; most of the time it would be undercooked and it always made a huge mess in the microwave. So I decided to try out this cheap, highly rated rice cooker and I'm so glad that I did. I usually only cook for two people, so I make about .5-1 cup of rice (uncooked). There is plenty of room to cook another cup or two, making this cooker ideal for feeding 1-4 people. It's small, so it takes up very little space on my counter, and the small size also makes it easier to clean. It takes about 15 minutes to make the perfect rice. I took the advice of other reviewers and used a bit more water than the instructions called for. This is definitely the way to go. The recommended water is not quite enough, but it is easy to figure out the correct amount (only took me two times to get it right, and even when it wasn't right, the rice was still decent). I also took the advice from people saying to turn it off when it is done cooking. I have not tried leaving it on yet, so I'm not sure if that would ruin the rice or not. Now my favorite part.... the steamer!!!! I love steamed vegatables, and now I can steam them at the same time that my rice cooks!! I was skeptical at first.... but I tried some carrots and broccoli in there the first time I used it, and they were steamed to perfection! What a great idea! It's less work, less dishes to clean, and it steams it perfectly.I would recommend this for anyone who wants a cheap but fantastic little rice cooker. Great for singles or small families. Cooking the rice is very quick and easy with minimal work, and cleaning the cooker is quite easy as well (no burnt stuff on the sides that would require scrubbing or soaking). And let's face it.... the price is hard to beat!UPDATE: I've been using this cooker for about a year now. I have seen no decrease in performance since I bought it. I use it about twice a week, and it is one of my favorite kitchen appliances. To elaborate on the first review I left.... yes, leaving it on the "warm" setting after the rice has finished cooking will dry it out a bit. Just unplug it once it has finished cooking, or just eat it right away. If you insist on keeping it on the "warm" setting, add 2-3 more oz of water at the start. I have also tried many veggies in the steamer, and they all turn out great! Carrots, beans, broccoli, peppers, peas, corn, cauliflour, the list goes on. And all of them turn out so well. I will use this thing until it breaks!

Simple works perfectly and a good buy

It does the job just as advertised. I thought a rice cooker the silliest appliance ever but after years of dry or too wet rice I thought I’d give it a try. It works. It really works. I’m amazed and so glad I chose to buy this product. It’s just right for two people. Love the steamer on top. Also it’s so simple. I have to say there r things I can still learn. This little rice cooker is the bomb

Cook rice great! Makes a mess.

I have only cooked white rice in this a few times so far and it cooks the rice perfectly. I got this on sale for only $18, so for the price and the cooking quality, I gave it 4 stars. The reason it's not 5 stars it makes a huge mess! I have to put a big plate under it because it boils over and spills out gunky rice water everywhere! But it's easy to clean up and still have great rice!

Rizo is a life saver!

I love this appliance. It’s so useful and easy to work with. I like it so much I named it Rizo!I can add one cup of white or brown rice and 1.5 cups of water and add veggies to the steamer and turn Rizo on. And I’m always sure that I’ll end up with a warm delicious cooked rice. Also, I can add one cup of penne pasta and add salt and pasta sauce and add water until the pasta is covered by water, and turn Rizo on.It has made my life so easy and is worth 100x times its cost!

Good choice

This rice cooker is awesome for its price; it is made of non-stick material and works so well. Just perfect for one or two people. Happy with the purchase.

Perfect size, mediocre performance, minor issues.

I like this compact little rice cooker. I like the red color and the fact that it's easy to use and store. Since I cook for four adults, cooking three measures of rice (it's not really a "cup" by American measures) provides for ample servings and a bit left over. The rice is tender and separate, just the way I like it--sometimes. Other times (and I'm thinking that this is the majority of the time) the top 1/2 inch of rice or so is a little bit more 'al dente' than I'd like. Not only is it an inconsistency that the bottom is soft to the core and the top is only 3/4 cooked, but it's something that is difficult to manage. Do I add more water? How much more? I have to check that the top rice to see if this time it's cooked well or still hard on top and, when it is still uncooked on top, I have to add more water and switch the control back to cook and delay dinner. No, it's not rocket science, but I shouldn't have to do it. All the rice should cook evenly all the time. The steamer basket is also well designed. It's sort of like a mini-pot, not like those 1/2" high inserts that come with most rice cookers. We had left over purchased Chinese fried rice and I put it in the steamer to heat. It came out perfect--tasted just made. I will never reheat fried rice in the microwave again.I also love that the lid is glass. This gives me an idea of how far along we are in the cooking process without having to uncover the pot. It has a vent hole that is somewhat larger than I would have expected, and I'm wondering if that this is factored into the time & amount calculations. Sometimes the rice comes out fine, sometimes I have that hard-top issue. Could it be because too much steam is escaping through the hole not leaving enough liquid to fully cook all the rice?I also like that, when finished, it doesn't create a stuck on layer of rice at the bottom. I know that the Japanese consider this dryer rice a delicacy and serve it to their privileged guests. I don't like this dried-on rice that my old Hitachi produced and considered it a nuisance to clean off so, to me, the fact that this isn't produced is an advantage. To someone who desires the crusty rice at the bottom, this would be a disadvantage. There are a few very minor disadvantages:1. I find it difficult to read the measurement scale on the side of pot. The inside pot is dark and the markings are sort of lightly embossed on the side but not deeply enough to cast shadows or really distinguish what they say. (I'm 68 and that might have something to do with it).2. When the pot is empty, it doesn't lay flat against the bottom of the cooker, it has a slight tilt. This is because the heating unit protrudes up and the weight of the pot with lid and steamer isn't enough to keep it down.3. It has no chime. You have to keep checking to see if it has gone from cook to warm. Not a big deal since 3 cups cook so fast, but would have been nice.4. I've used it five times already and it still has that new heating appliance smell. I've experienced this smell before, some sort of coating that has to burn off with time, but it usually happens after a couple of uses.
